Just read this afternoon that Brilliant Speed was struck by lightning at Three Chimneys.
I took a solo “horse-country trip” back in 2011 through VA, NC, SC & KY - just me and the dog. Spent the most time in Lexington.
Loved Keeneland, and was there for his Bluegrass Stakes win. I was right at the rail at the finish - freezing in my rain parka (the one I bought after Monmouth’s Breeders Cup!).
So I have a wonderful memory of him. He was just so full of himself after that win. It was a joy to catch that attitude.
Guess he loved the rain.
Very sad. Condolences to his connections.
ETA: The people at Three Chimneys were wonderful - took one of the tours. They must be heartbroken.
