Britches & heels, it's official

ive learned not to go out in breeches and boots covered in snot unless im prepared to be hit on.
i never knew that horse boogers were so dang sexy.

i was in full seats and half chaps one day…a lady at the grocery store asked me if i climbed telephone poles for a living.

another day someone was looking at me strangely…i just casually stated that these pants give me better grip on the barstools at Chili’s
:lol: :lol::lol:

I just get funny looks in the grocery store with my full seats, tall boots and a green slobbered t-shirt.

I also went to a math tutoring session with several of my classmates in my show clothes once. My overly fashionable tutor sincerely thought I was sporting the latest trend (I guess she thought smelling like garbage, with a white buttoned down shirt tucked into white full-seats and blue knee high socks and Birkenstock sandals was the latest trend shrug Another thing to add to my ever-expanding list of things I will nver understand!)

I live in a pretty horsey town, the other day I was in Pier 1 and there were 3 other women wearing full seat. Not fashion forward, but sweaty, ball caps, etc. I never change to shop-drives my husband a bit nuts sometimes, but it’s the life!
It’s like that out here, too. It’s not unusual to walk into Harris Teeter – grocery store, lot full of Jags, SUVs and other high dollar cars – or Starbucks or any other place like that and see women wearing half chaps and boots, usually with younger kids in tow. I’ve seen the odd guy dressed as thus as well.

Roan,

We have lots of poeple of all ages shopping in riding gear, especially during foxhunting season. That’s why we live in Virginia hunt country horse Mecca. It is interesting to go into the expensive uber upscale stores in Tyson’s Corner and discover that the Polo version of riding clothes are many times more expensive than the real and they don’t function either. i feel for the wannabes. We are soo lucky to know the joy that comes from the real horsey life.

I would have to agree.

Eileen

A couple years ago I was in the grocery store check-out line and someone behind me asked about what I was wearing. I told them I had been riding and they said “motorcycle?” I had just turned 65, so I took it as a compliment!

I get asked if the breeches are clothes for skiing or bicycling, depending on the season. Only a few “get” the connection with horseback riding in Aurora. Down around Parker, it’s more common to see riders out & about in their riding clothes.

Gee, you’d think the smell is a dead giveaway…

There’s a group on Facebook called: “I Wear My Riding Breeches in Public and get Awkward Stares.” I’m a member!

I went into a Starbucks after a day after the last horse show in my white pants (all dirty) and tall boots and got THREE comments in less than 10 minutes of the “where’s yer horse?” type. I think I need a t-shirt that says: " My Horse is Going to be Up Your A** if You Don’t Stop Staring!"

Thank you! I just joined

Eileen

LOL, me too! There are 2000 members!

yeah, I just joined too and sent the link to some friends. I am absolutely terrible about stopping at the store on my way back from the barn - all sweaty and covered in horse hair

Still, even covered with horse hair and stains, horse people look better than the kids wearing saggy pants & ballcaps on backwards.

Does anyone remember, like 20 years ago, The Limited sold breech look alikes, with knee patches, no less? I always find it funny to see “riding boots” which have skinny heels and zippers (and no support). My mom always thought riding clothes were uber fashionable…
I remember being so excited when I saw Ariats at some dept stores, I was thinking I wouldn’t have to travel to a tack shop for paddock boots… sadly they don’t usually sell the paddock boots there.

Not to mention we also know where to get authentic, functional riding clothes at 1/3 the price, LOL!:lol:

And now the britches and high heels are on the cover of the latest Talbots…

Actually, this Talbots catalog needs to go in my recycle bin right away! I like too many things… not to mention the lovely ideas for accessorizing my breeches so I don’t look so dumb standing in line at Subway. I need a hunt scarf  to disguise my helmet head.

Ditto the danger in keeping the Talbots catalog! Lots of great looking things in this one. But if you have horses, where’s the money for fab clothes??

SD

Gone… spent… I just bought hay, a set of panel caps for our pipe panels, and ordered replacements for everything the horses destroyed this month… So that’s ummm like $1100. But still, I loff the quilted trench coat and the argyle vest… and the… oh nevermind. :frowning:

…this is why I loved living in Wellington.

Especially during the winter…go into Starbucks at Wellington Green and the people who look out of place are those NOT wearing breeches!

But even all year round down there, no one gives you funny looks for dressing like you ride.

Finally!

Finally something I can use my white full-seats for. I bought them to show in a couple of years ago but still haven’t shown.

Another advantage to living in KY. Not many people bother to stare at you when you are out in riding clothes and they all know what they are.

My former instructor from PA came to visit one time. She went into a convenience store in her grungies on the way to Rolex. She was amazed that no one even did a second take.

I get tons of weird looks. Maybe if I brought some flats or heels with me to stop by Subway/Wal-Mart on the way home from the barn I’d be fashionable…but wait, the dye from my half chaps, the slobber and dirt, the iodine and epsom salt stains, the horse hair, the mixed scent of garlic, sweat, and poop! I don’t think all that comes with the “breeches” they sell in Nordstrom…

If people are brave enough to come and ask me about it, they usually ask if I’m a jockey (I’m nearly 5’8"…) and I just say yes to keep things simple :stuck_out_tongue:
