Britches & heels, it's official

The breech/heel look has been officially sanctioned for fashionistas this fall. Once can purchase breech-looking leggings for the price of a nice pair of Pikeurs.

But dressage-inspired fashion doesn’t stop there. I about choked on my Grape Nuts when I spotted a pair of D&G ‘equestrian inspired’ boots featuring a spur (that looked frankly like it might be too long by FEI standards) in September’s issue of InStyle (pg 388).

I had no idea I was so cutting edge. Are clinging shavings and the occasional horse boogie appropriate accessories? (I hope so!)

One of my very fashionable neighbors was surprised when I told him I ride. He thought the breeches I often walk down the street in were a sign of my high fashion, if you knew me, you would know how hysterical that thought is

I often hit the gym before or after I ride and walk in and out in breeches w/ flip flops or boots depending on if I’m coming or going…

also go watch my roommates Muy Thai and BJJ classes and have been just back from the barn and I always get shocked looks when I say I’m going to ride…

usually it goes…

… wait ride? ride what?

my horse.

you have a horse?

um yeah… the breeches w/ real knee patches, the horse sweat, the muddyshitcovered tall boots w/ nothign fancy on them that look like they are worn? ringing any bells?

um yeah no I thought you just dressed weird.
that means you must have a whip too huh?

yeah I do. And I’m gonna beat your ass for sounding like an idiot in a second.
<hand to forhead> SLAP

urban outfitters also had new ‘riding/equestrian boots’ bleck. so annoying.

it gets better! In Lord and Taylor, the kids department has Polo brand “leggings” for girls - it’s basically jods for a high price - ridiculous!

When dog hair becomes fashionable, I am in.

That is where tweed comes from!

The aquarium store I buy supplies from is on the way home from the barn so I swing by while still in my full-seats. I was shocked when I realised that they thought I just wore funny pants. Not that I rode.

I need a T-shirt that says “These are my horse clothes.”

LOL, I go to the store on the way home from the barn all the time (“cares about her fashion image” is really not my middle name). One time a lady stared at me for a while, started to say something, didn’t, and then finally said… “so, are those like… for riding horses?” I was wearing my half chaps, lol!

You must admit they do look “different”.

i was in full seats and half chaps one day…a lady at the grocery store asked me if i climbed telephone poles for a living.

another day someone was looking at me strangely…i just casually stated that these pants give me better grip on the barstools at Chili’s

My former trainer was visiting me from Holland. She was completely mortified that we would go shopping, and I would still be in my breeches. She would move just far enough away, so it was not obvious we were together.

horse clothes

I wore my horsey outfit to the bike shop to pick up my new bicycle for road racing. Picture that: Breeches, boots and a bike helmet!

So does that mean I can just take my tall boots off, slap some stiletto heels on, and suddenly my navy plaid full seat breeches are in vogue?

My sophomore year in high school I was on my way to a lesson right after class.
So naturally, I changed and then walked to my car wearing tan breeches, a black polo and my dress boots. One of the upper class approached me and was like, “I LOVE your outfit! It’s so fashion forward.”

I replied,“Umm…I’m going to a riding lesson. But thanks?!”

Gap has a line of cute jeans that are ‘breech inspired’. I was actually rather disappointed, I wanted them to be well…plain.

I live in a pretty horsey town, the other day I was in Pier 1 and there were 3 other women wearing full seat. Not fashion forward, but sweaty, ball caps, etc. I never change to shop-drives my husband a bit nuts sometimes, but it’s the life!

At Abercrombie, they have the guts to call breeches the “perfect butt” pants!

I had to laugh… the other day I was reading Marie Claire or some other such magazine and they had a full page on “equestrian fashion”. For the boots, they actually put Tuff Riders - the cheaper ones, for like $79. At least it’s something genuine, right??

Who knew… all the different colored breeches I have are fashion forward!! Maybe I’ll start dressing up in them :stuck_out_tongue:

But nah… wouldn’t want to get city crap all over my $500 boots.

LOL

Those are so hideous.

I wouldn’t mind them if they had a decent rise and were pegged. I don’t think I’m in A & F’s demographic, however.
