Broodmare Lease Agreement HELP!

Looking for anyone who has had experience leasing out their mare on a broodmare lease and what you had in your lease agreements. Everything I have found online so far has been very simple and does not go into detail regarding the expected care of mare, etc.

I would love to hear what type of clauses you had in your agreements and what issues you ran into.

TIA!

Contact a professional to sketch up a contract for you so you are sure you have covered all bases. It may cost a bit but normally those costs are peanuts compared to when things don’t work out according to plan!

I agree this is something that it helps to have a professional write up the contract as they can be complicated. Here are a few areas however that should definitely be covered: where the mare may be kept/boarded, any restrictions on vets used or stallions, who is listed as the breeder on the papers of the foal, if insurance is required and who is named as the beneficiary, if the mare doesn’t settle/slips a pregnancy can the lease be terminated, who has the final decision re: major medical health (ex colic surgery). Good luck!
