This was a horrible accident, but could have been so much worse. Does anyone know the staus of the injured horse?
COTH had it on the “Most popular” box in green over on the side last week. Click on any headline in that box and it will take you to the news briefs pages. Don’t have to be a subscriber.
The most seriously injured was transported but didn’t make it. It could have been much worse. Another semi lost control and bounced off the center divider back across the hiway into the side of the trailer. Driver kept the rig upright and got it stopped. Other horses suffered minor injuries only…the casualty was in the stall where the out of control truck hit it.
No horses died, that was misinformation when the reporter confused the word tranquilized with euthanized.
The trainer posted on Facebook that the horse at the clinic had made it through his first night after the accident, but hasn’t updated since.
Good to hear…I hope.
This is why I have peace of mind shipping my horse in a semi… Imagine if that 18 wheeler hit a regular horse trailer… No horses would be walking away.
I booked a trip to bring a horse from MD to Seattle last week with Brookledge, and I’m not going to lie, the fact that they managed that accident the way they did made me okay with paying the little bit of extra money they cost over the other shippers. Well, to be fair, they were also able to get him there the fastest, which also influenced my decision, but that accident made me feel more confident than I usually do about shipping horses long distances.
The drivers who dropped off my horse said that the driver in that accident hasn’t gotten back behind the wheel because he was so shaken. They also said he’s a really terrific guy.
I don’t have a current status of the horse, but the trainer posted last week that he was continuing to improve and it sounds like he will be okay.
From what I know about the incident - heard second hand via someone who has been in contact with the trainer - the horse was still in the hospital as of last weekend and expected to survive.
He had injuries to his face and some neurological issues that they were working through. No news on how this will affect the horse long term and his career or usability.
This is why it is so important to ship with the best shippers. It could be the difference between life and death. Kudos to BL for managing a horrible situation so well.
