Many posters here may already be familiar with the work of the UK-based charity Brooke | Action for Working Horses and Donkeys, which was selected as the Official Charity for the FEI World Equestrian Gamesâ„¢ Tryon 2018 (WEG). Brooke USA, the UK Brooke’s US-based sister charity, is a 501©(3) fundraising organization that exists to support the work of the Brooke by raising funds and responsibly directing them to the areas of greatest need. As a bit more background, the Brooke was originally founded in Cairo in 1934 by Dorothy Brooke, the wife of an English cavalry officer, seeking to help English war horses who had been sold into hard labor at the end of World War I. Since then, the Brooke has expanded and remains dedicated to significantly improving the welfare of working horses, donkeys and mules and the people they serve throughout Asia, Africa, the Middle East and Latin America. As you may know, many working equines in some of the world’s poorest communities spend their days in agonizing misery as their owners struggle to survive, perhaps carrying heavy loads deep underground in a Pakistani coal mine or laboring in a kiln to transport hundreds of pounds of bricks in more than 120° heat. The Brooke works in some of the most challenging areas of the world to relieve immediate suffering and create lasting change, and Brooke USA is proud to enable US supporters to make tax-deductible contributions to support this important work.
