Has anyone heard an update on the accident Brookledge had? I have heard conflicting stories on how the horses are. I know the driver was airlifted to a hospital.
Sorry I know nothing but I am praying for a good outcome. Nothing is so terrifying as roads and horses.
This article I saw the other day has not been updated.
Sounds like the semi behind the Brookledge hauler was following too close and not paying attention. Far too common.
Overall today, drivers terrify me. I wish speed limits would be lowered and the highway patrol was everywhere. In my area, after a light turns red, three more cars go through it.
The article said the horses were ok. I hope that is true. Semis scare me.
We had our trailer t boned into the side of our trailer by a jeep that ran a stop sign, one horse was on board at the time and he was fascinated at the destruction of the jeep which was in pieces outside his window.
Trailer was a steel on steel frame and was not damaged, jeep was pretty much destroyed
The police just took the report and hauled the jeep off, we continued home
I definitely think I’ve saved my life many times by looking both ways after the traffic light turns green.
Just posted to Instagram an hour or so ago… Geoffrey Hesslink’s Monarchy was lost in what sounds like this same accident. So so sad.

Very sad news.
I had heard one was lost, but I was hoping it was just a rumor.
Heartbreaking.
Soooooo awful…
Terrible news
What a nightmare. Beautiful Monarch, rest in peace.
Lowing speed limits won’t do anything. Neither having cops out. Accidents are just that and will always happen.
Brookledge co driver in his 60’s was thrown out of his bunk and received many injuries including a broken pelvis. Had to have major orthopedic surgery. One show horse was put down. Speed limit was going down to 45 and I guess driver was going 70. My uncle is a BL driver.
Ugh. That is just terrible. All of it.
It wasn’t my uncle thankfully, but most of the drivers who have been there a while all know each other. The one driving was a young “kid,” and he was ejected but fine from my understanding. It was the codriver in the bunk that got hurt. I didn’t get any more details as he was speaking with my grandmother on their normal phone calls.
There is a lot of research showing that lower speed limits lead to fewer accidents and injuries. Much of it is cited here: https://www.nhtsa.gov/book/countermeasures-that-work/speeding-and-speed-management/countermeasures/legislation-and-licensing/lower-speed-limits
For example, “A 2016 study found that each 5 mph increase of State maximum speed limits was associated with an 8% increase in fatality rates on interstates and freeways and a 4% increase on other roads (Farmer, 2017).”
You can debate whether the safety gains from lower speed limit limits are worth the costs in terms of time, productivity and shipping costs. And of course, we don’t know if a lower speed limit would have made a difference in this particular situation. But the general statement that lowering speed limits doesn’t do anything is contrary to a huge amount of research.
Thank you for posting this.
