Brother Derek

Dear Lord what did I do? I sustained a TBI with a horse Sept of last year and it’s been an up-hill climb to return to some level of normal. We sold all of our horses and I decided to take a step back to help with my recovery (and keep me safe in the process). I had a client looking for a second horse and we went to see a baby Brother Derek gelding. He was a bit fresh, but nothing terrible for being racing fit and his second ride back at the farm. He is a lovely Hunter-type mover and seems to have a great brain. Unfortunately, things did not work out for my client and she was unable to get a second horse. I was smitten with this guy and just could not get him out of my mind. Things fell into place for me and I’m not the proud owner of a OTTB that is currently going to be parked in my pasture until I figure out a game plan. He’s still young, so right now, I plan on turning him out over winter and then having a trainer put him back into light work this spring. He never raced. In fact, they were using him to pony horses as the track…he’s a mellow fellow for the most part.

Does anyone have any Brother Derek’s out there? How were their dispositions? He is a cute Hunter-type mover (not much knee or hock action at all) and snapped his knees to his eye-balls when put over a rail. He was dead honest to the jump, but jumped the heck out of it and seemed quite game.

Sorry, but the only contribution I have is glad you are recovered and hope he works out for you!

I can’t help either, but I always thought Brother Derek looked like a hunter. He was handsome.
He’s in Saudi Arabia now.
