Brown boots–you’ll probably have to go custom (seen brown dehners, der daus, vogels, so far)
brown helmets – DO NOT get a brown GPA or GR8–they’ll DESTROY the classic look of the brown boots. get a brown HAMPTON. they are beautiful in brown. seriously. PLEASE do not get one of those hideous gr8’s or gpa’s in brown. they’re a terrible shade, and it just looks so WRONG! if you’re going to be classic, you have to be classic all the way through. Not just the boots.
She’s right on the boots, you’ll have to go custom- I love love love my der dau’s, have 2 pairs and they’re amazing!
I like the Brown Hampton’s and the GR8’s, but definitely not the GPA. Just don’t wear all of this with a brown coat!

Is the OP asking where to BUY them or where to WEAR them?? Seems to me like asking what occasion to wear them…
You could time travel back to the 70’s and be right in style.
Yes where are they appropriate attire?
But it’s good to know which ones are terrible shades too:)
Ok, so what color coat?
brown boots- a NEVER for anything outside the jumper ring because it doesn’t really matter what you wear, and even then you’ll get funny looks… sorry to burst your brown boot bubble (i like them too!) but if you plan to show with them, it won’t work. just… not accepted anymore, especially in the eq divisions.
brown helmets- definitely go with either the brown Charles Owen Wellington or Hampton Classic. The rest are not good. Brown helmets only go with a taupe/ brown jacket on either a chestnut or bay horse, or some paints. Otherwise the colors don’t go, especially brown jackets on grays. I think brown helmets are snazzy though!
Its appropriate in the hunters, and I guess in the jumpers as well. It would really depend on the shading of the helmet, boots, pants and jacket, but a light yellow coat (stable cloth makes one that i’ve been drooling over for quite a while) or a very very light blue coat, maybe even a grey-ish.
Manhattan Saddlery sells brown Der Dau’s off the shelf. They run about 300 $ I believe. A brown helmet is appropriate in hunters, jumpers, and some equitation (I have seen big eq riders in bown helmets…If you ride well enough, it really doesnt matter;)). As for the brown boots----hunters and jumpers only

Totally incorrect.
They are by all means classic in the hunters, however, traditionally considered informal (cubbing) attire in the hunt field. Therefore, while I wouldn’t wear them for a classic that requires formal attire (as formal attire dictates a dark coat as opposed to a tweed), or an equitation class, I would absolutely wear them in any other hunter class. Black for an eq class, though.
Never noticed any “funny looks” either, but got plenty of complements. They’re fully and totally acceptable, just more rare as they’re rarely available new without going custom. A few manufacturers do still make them off the rack and sell them, though.

I did, however, pair them with my black GPA because it’s the only approved helmet I have. Please excuse our long spot
I’ve even paired them with rust:

Albeit, that one was a jumper class. Did not get any funny looks that day either.
I bought mine (vogels) off of ebay for $41. They’re one of my best finds ever.
Totally agree with Trixie. You can definitely wear brown in the hunters.
There was a thread a while back (a couple of years maybe?) where someone posted a pic with brown field boots, brown helmet and green jacket. It was gorgeous. Very classic.
Wear a jacket with a velvet collar and I’m in heaven.
Trixie, your horse is GORGEOUS! Love the boots too!

at a horse show is absolutely fine. You could wear em with tan (but probably not puke green) or rust breeches. wear a navy coat with it (but not one of those really blue navies–i’d go with a more blackish navy, something dark and doesnt scream BLUE–unless the browns are really dark)
they would look fab with rust though, i think.

^ i have black boots, though. but man, if my pony wasn’t so loud (paint) i’d love to have a brown helmet and boots (but i’d have to get a diff coat. and i LOVE this coat, so it’s a no go haha)
my trainer has OOOOOOOLD brown boots, and they’re getting orangey
I bought a pair of custom calf Dehners made in 1973 on ebay for a very reasonable price. I’ve actually found a few on Etsy of all places recently, all for less than $100.
I don’t really show, though, so no thoughts there.
Wasn’t brown all they had back in the day?
A lovely look… use it wisely
Brown field boots used to be for cubbing and , in some hunts, informal hunts as during a weekday meet. Anything but black velvet hunt caps didn’t exist. If you were staff, the ribbon at the back hung down. Otherwise is was up, tack onto the cap.
In the hunter ring, therefore, I might do a brown ensemble on a weekday class. No new-fangled helmet, with that, but perhaps I would get velvet-covered brown.
Get the logic? It sounds like a lovely way to expand the rules without trashing them altogether.
People saying mean things about my beautiful brown GPA makes me sad… And my brown jacket, too. Consider their feelings please! ( I bought a pair of brown DerDaus as well, but they’re off the rack and don’t fit quite well enough to go out in public.)
 You beat me to it!
I had a pair of brown field boot hand me downs from Maryanne Steiert back in the day that they had to practically cut off me - I refused to admit I outgrew them! <sigh> I still haven’t gotten over those boots!
It’s ok, I have a brown trauma void with all the newfangled venting and copper accent piping because damnit it’s hot in Louisiana, and that’s the only brown one with a MIPS liner. I think it still looks lovely, and am considering just going full retro with rust breeches and a green coat. There’ve gotta be at least a few judges who will appreciate the throwback…right?
