Brown or black boots for a kid on a pony?

Question for the CoTH collective:

My daughter is going to start leadline this season, and I’m looking to get her gear to wear in the show ring.

What do you see most often in terms of paddock boot and garter color on kids? Brown or black? Is one more trendy and the other more traditional? I never did the pony circuit as a kid, so I have no idea what I’m getting into here. Help!! LOL

Brown boots and garters.

So actually- this may be kind of regional dependent. I’m from the East Coast and always had the kids in brown boots/ gaters. Imagine my surprise when I came to the midwest and had my own little kid and the only stuff was black!!

I think one year she had brown, one year black? I forget but either are acceptable.

PS- it did not /does not make a difference.

Brown paddock boots with brown garters is the traditional look.
Was just at pony ring at WEC this weekend and that’s what the littles were sporting.

Although, some of the kids in the large ponies have now started wearing tall boots, so you see more tall boots in the medium and large pony rings that you did about a decade ago.

I don’t know that I even see black boots/garters for sale in the stores. So if that’s in style in some places it’s not in style around here. Nor are they easy to find here. How interesting. Jods and garters would definitely be informal hunting attire so that explains to me why they’d be brown and not black.

And at our saddlery- they have black. So weird to me!!! Thankfullly kiddo is out of jods and garters
It was so strange to me.

At ours there’s only black, no brown.

Brown or Black, whichever you prefer.

I had one daughter who preferred the black paddock boots/garter look and another the brown/brown.

The folks that enjoy the smell of their own farts will say never black, always brown.

I prefer the look of brown, too.

Brown is generally the “tradition” but honestly at that age it’s pretty much what you can find. Main thing is to make sure boots and garters match. Brown gloves is also more traditional but black is waaaay more popular.

They’re less sassy when they’re in jods and garters.
