I picked up a pair of brown dress boots on eBay (Marlboroughs, an English brand). I plan to use them just for hacking about, but I bet some hunts would allow them for ratcatcher.

lol that’s my review on the page…but I bought these less than two weeks ago and I am IN LOVE. Trying to sell my Tredsteps and get these boots in black as well.
They have broken in so easily and they are comfortable. I can actually walk around in these. Beautiful color. Fit like a glove too. I have a couple of pics (besides the one in the review on Dover) to help show the fit if anyone wants to see.

PS…My little brother is not very good at taking pictures. I would think all 15 year olds can work a camera phone pretty good…but not him apparently lol

Brown field boots are more traditional, but yes, brown field -or- dress boots are equally acceptable for informal cubbing/autumn hunting, even in the most fashion-policing of hunts.
Thanks Sidesaddlerider! The boots are very comfortable, so I don’t mind using them for practice, but I think they’ll polish up nicely next fall, too.

I must be getting old. I remember if you wanted field boots, your only choice was brown.
This. Field boots are brown. Dress boots are black. Black field boots are a relatively recent creation of the show hunter crowd.

I have 3 other MH boots so I know I love the fit. I’m hoping they are closer to my MH Supremes, than my MH Richmonds. Have a feeling they may be in between… (feel/fit)
This thread isn’t as exciting now that you can buy brown field boots everywhere. 
I am just getting back into hunting and have been looking for a pair of brown field boots for cubbing. I am wondering if this beautiful pair of Milo Felines would be appropriate or too light of a leather? (not sure it will link directly, but the light brown Daniela color boots under Women’s)

Brown field boots must be what you wear when you ride a unicorn. :yes: My three-buckle Dehners are brown, but they’re not the usual type of field boot. Best. Boots. Ever!

Ariat Heritage in Sienna are the nicest dark brown field boots ever and very reasonably priced. FWIW I really love mine.

I ADORE mine too! Ariat browns are so rich and polish up beautifully. I use the Mahogany coloured Kiwi cream polish which is a perfect match.
