I wash mine in the washing machine with cold water and just a touch of detergent, plus a towel, like @NaturallyHappy. I let them air dry, with a fairly loose rubber band around the bristles to keep them neat.
I ruined a gorgeous Hill goat hair body brush by washing it in water that was too hot - felted it right up. Never again!
I donât plan on putting the super fine brushes in the washer - those stay super clean anyways as theyâre really finishing brushes. I have natural fiber âstiffâ brushes though, that are super groty.
For nylon and synthetic bristles, orvis paste and a bucket of hot water. pressure hose to suds and rinse, sun dry.
For the soft horsehair brushes I simply used very hot water and scrub/ rub . A little shampoo to help break down the oils.
The Virtue Soap Company ones work great!!
I have never washed a brush.
I use a rubber curry comb and a body brush. You clean the brush on the curry comb every few strokes. You knock the curry comb on the back of the brush to clean the curry comb.
I use brush bombs all of the time. I soak for around 20 or 30 minutes and then rinse them off. Iâve also used dish soap or Castile soap. I like the brush bombs, but I might be less picky. I donât think I could quite bring myself to use the dishwasher.
I just use Oxyclean and warm water for a good soak. Worked just as well as the Brush Therapy crystals you can buy.
I brush with a rubber curry in one hand and brush in the other. Every three strokes I clean my curry comb. Even still, my brushes 100% get dirty. The curry comb is going to knock off the loose dirt but the bristles still build up with dirt. Washing my brushes every other month still yields very dirty water buckets!
Has anyone ever put a Haas brush in the washing machine? Iâm intrigued but donât want to ruin them.
I have multiple Haas brushes and wouldnât put them in either the washing machine or the dishwasher. I canât imagine that the heat and/or agitation would be good for them. I just put a squirt of dishwashing liquid in a bucket and let mine soak for a short time - 15 minutes or so.
I have put cheaper brushes in the washing machine, but would hesitate with the Haas given their price. I could be convinced to do so on a short, cold or warm cycle. I would never put good brushes in the dishwasher given the high temps used - I canât imagine that it wouldnât do damage.
Ultimately, the easiest and quickest way Iâve found to wash them is:
- fill a utility sink with warm soapy water,
- soak for ~ 20-30 min while I do other post-ride chores,
- give a few backstrokes with a curry,
- rinse, repeat if needed, and rinse again until the water is clear.
The whole thing requires maybe 15 minutes of my time, and I know it wonât damage the brushes.
