Brush for xc jump- where to buy

So I am going to make a jump that has brush on it. Where would I find a good source for the brush that won’t break the bank?

The only place I’ve seen the boxwoods (top pic) is Christmas Tree Shops and they were about $5 per bush. Not cheap.

Better than I was finding. It was going to be about $100+ for a training level sized arrowhead.

I am thinking of using a few push broom heads. I think I can go that for about $40 or $50

I know some people who get brush for their brush fences from the people who supply fake brush to the steeplechase tracks. I don’t know the name of the suppliers, or the prices.

I ordered from Ali Express and it was pretty close to the first link you showed. Bought 15 packs, which did a training level wedge (just front and back - not middle row) as well as a small skinny roll-top. Still have half left.

Hobby Lobby and Michaels both have artificial foliage. Couldn’t say specifically if they have boxwood or not at your local stores (ours do). But if you have one locally, it wouldn’t hurt to go look. They frequently have sales and closeouts and you never know what you might find.

I will check out Michaels. We have a newer Hobby Lobby nearby but I won’t support them for political reasons.

Check out Craigslist or Freecycle to see if someone is ditching an artificial Christmas tree. That should give you a fair amount of brush!

I got a whole bunch of table top artificial Christmas trees and garland on close out at JoAnn Fabric right after the holidays. I know, not the right time of year now, but if you can wait they were great deals. Try other craft/Michaels and big box stores too.

Be careful with the artificial christmas trees - most have a wire as their core.

I am not buying from them so have not priced it. We have decided to use Christmas greens for a similar look and I have some in my basement that will work.

We get our “greens” from a dollar store - usually $2.00 a cluster. They last forever. Also the round topiary balls are nice to decorate xc fences - Try Home Sense or Winners.

Some thoughts? I like dollar store (Dollar Tree where it is actually just a dollar) for filler because it is inexpensive and I can easily replace if needed. Maybe ask a neighbor if they trim any bushes or branches if they can give them to you so you can make them filler… I had a bush that I trimmed in my old yard that would have been fantastic as filler!

You could also try Amazon. Here is a three pack of artificial branches that would probably work, not too expensive depending on how many you need… if dollar store has nothing, this could be an option:

I was look for brush for a jump similar to this where it is attached to the jump not fill. I was going to try to recreate this jump with 2 lines of brush.

Can’t you just drill some holes and stick filler in that way?

Do you have an auction nearby? We do. And I often see stuff like that for cheap.

We used corn stalks --just the tops all pushed together --it does not last long (about a month or so) unless the horses eat it.
