Brushing on durasole?

Does anyone use a brush to apply durasole instead of the bottle? I’m tired of the little nozzle getting blocked about 2/3rds of the way through the bottle and figure I can dump the solution into another container and use a brush…toothbrush, maybe, or small paint brush?

If someone has already figured out the best way to do this, I don’t want to reinvent the wheel. Anyone?

I used to apply iodine to the feet using a small paint brush. It was easiest to find a bottle and brush configuration where I could dunk brush into bottle like you would for any other hoof product. I will say that teeny brushes like the one that comes with the Elemental Equine sole paint stuff sucks, though a container around that size would probably be what you’re looking for.

Yep! I use the brush that comes with Keratex when you buy it. It’s a small brush, you could probably find something similar at a hardware store. I pour the content onto the hoof and then brush it around, without the nose of the bottle touching the hoof.

FWIW, for me, Durasole has worked better.

I imagine you do not want to buy Keratex just for the brush. There is an artists brush called a “Glaze Brush” that is very similar:

For a different hoof dressing, Mom always used a small coffee can, the metal kind with the plastic lid. Cut a slit in the lid. Paintbrush handle pokes up through lid. I don’t know how durasole spreads on the hoof or how it keeps in less-than-airtight conditions.

Hmm, I use the bottle to apply and have not had it clog. I usually apply using the bottle, drip drip around the bottom of the foot, then brush that around using a small brush (also from Keratex, as someone else mentioned). The bad thing about doing this, for me anyway, is I tend to spray flecks of it when brushing on to my clothes, so I have a whole collection of shirts now with purple speckled sleeves.

I squirt it on from the bottle, then use the little brush on the back of my hoofpick to spread it around. Have never had a problem with the nozzle clogging, but I do usually manage to get a few purple drips on ky hand! (I think mostly from his hind feet which don’t have shoes, so they drip more)

I do the same thing! Durasole on the sole aims Keratex hardener on the walls. The keratex brushes work perfectly.

I put it in a little spray bottle, spray, and use the brush part of the combo hoof pics, just because that’s what I already had. Your old toothbrush works well too.

Awesome. Thanks, guys! Especially for the links  Yeah, I have the keratex hardener, too. Farrier likes that on the walls, durasole on the sole. Not near enough to the end of the keratex bottle to buy new and swap the old one to durasole, but found something kind of similar on Amazon.

Soooo excited to not have this fight anymore. I think the brush will be mucho easier!

Agree with the comments above. My old toothbrushes live at the barn and I use them for Durasole.

I’ve never had an issue with the Durasole clogging, but perhaps one of these items would serve your purpose:

I bought an empty plastic hoof oil container with the brush ( Dover has an empty one), cut the tips off the durasole bottle and pour the bottles of Durasole in it. Three bottles will be enough. Very easy that way to apply.
