What rotten luck. Again. https://www.chronofhorse.com/article/davidson-recovering-from-a-kick-to-the-face
Crazy!! So glad he is (mostly) ok and on the road to recovery. One tough guy…
Just goes to show even routine things can get you in trouble. I once got kicked in the chest putting the butt-bar up – there’s no good way to do it without getting some part of your body in the firing line!
OUCH ! One lucky man. Just goes to show you that there are risks everywhere with horses.
I’m so impressed by his comments. He just keeps getting back up after setback after setback. And not a hint of even irritation at the horse’s behavior – as it should be! but isn’t always. Just so understanding of the horse. I wish him a speedy and full recovery.
He just can’t catch a break, poor guy.
He sure is carrying a lot of metal. I remember the x-rays of his clavicle…
I’m shocked that he plans to compete again so soon. I’m familiar with le fort fractures and it’s no easy road.
I actually gasped when I read the details:
He was “diagnosed with a severely torn lip, broken nose, broken cheekbones in six places, a broken jawbone in two places, an injured eye socket, the roof of his mouth was split in half, and he lost several teeth. He did not have a concussion.”
Tough guy. I feel like such a wimp just reading that.
When I was in hospital recovering from “the big one” the Calgary Stampede was on. I couldn’t help but think that compared to the Bull Riders I was a heck of a whimp!
Still think that Buck should be more of a whimp, more recovery time needed!
Yes, there is something to be said for being knocked unconscious by the kick and waking up in the hospital 3 days later.
It sounds as if he took it square in the middle of the face. Mine at least was lower and off to one side… Still, it’s never any fun for the people who had to witness it.
OUCH!!! Wow, he had some serious injuries, I sure wouldn’t be riding in a week or competing in 10 days. Needs to take a month or two and let his body heal, no competition is worth risking more damage.
Le Fort III fractures are no joke. I’m convinced he’s superhuman after reading his response and plan to compete.
He probably needs to compete to get his qualifications squared away – especially this year, you really can’t afford to sit one out.
Me too, that sounds really painful. Then I thought of how much more painful it would be bouncing around while riding.
Yeah I can’t imagine riding, and he wants to compete in about 10 days! Wow!
He has the worst luck! I’m amazed that he plans to ride so soon after such a severe injury, but he comes from tough stock. Remember when Bruce Sr. rode around KY after falling and cracking some ribs on an earlier ride? Still I would feel better if Buck let himself heal a little before getting back into competing.
that sounded like quite the clobber he got. Hope he has a speedy and uneventul recovery.
I’ve thought about this a bit. He’s got to be pretty drugged up right now. Maybe those painkillers are giving him a little too much optimism which will fade when the dose is lowered.
Or he could be simply very tough and I can’t get my head around that.
Wow.
He was very lucky.
Competing in 10 days really sounds, um, optimistic…!
I imagine it will be awhile before the swelling goes down.
It’s hard to imagine that his doctors would be on board with his timeline, but you never know.
OMG. I gasped at all those injuries. All those injuries and no concussion.
My instructor said that a double angle float is so much safer than a straight double float for when you are only floating one horse.
Well after reading this, the double angle float is so much safer. You are level with the horse and to the side. Not lower and behind.
What a class act the way he talked about the horse and repeatedly said it wasn’t the horse’s fault. Those injuries sound, frankly, horrific. He must be in a world of hurt. I’ve been coddling myself over getting a large filling replaced!!
