Budweiser Clydesdales Benched for Super Bowl

Anheuser-Busch InBev BUD 1.09% NV is sidelining its lovable Clydesdale horses for Super Bowl LII and will instead highlight its philanthropic efforts, as the beer company tries to resuscitate the Budweiser brand after a decadeslong slump.”

And the Deep Thinkers at InBev figure a lecture or a tear-jerking video will help marketing better than the horses? I think somebody has been sampling the product a bit too vigorously… :dead:

AB InBev plans to invest about $2 billion dollars in U.S. plants following the passage of President Trump’s tax overhaul legislation… that should kill the brand for the left

Well, geez, that was the only reason I watched the SB.

I don’t think they have been sampling the product. If they have, they would realize that weasel piss can’t compete with the multitude of heady beers out there. Keep the horses and make better beer.

I am not much of a beer drinker, but Budweiser is the nastiest beer. Why would anyone drink it or some of the other sorry US beers. I loved the horses and will miss them for some b.s. they’ll show. The brand seems like it died years ago.

There are lots of good US beers. Mostly from small/craft or regional brewers.

Agreed that Budweiser’s problems have little to do with advertising or Clydesdales and everything to do with the product. I love the Clydesdales, but I won’t buy their “beer”.

Weasel piss! That’s a new one for me.

I went to college for 7 years in Milwaukee. We don’t drink St. Louis Swill!!!

Never did like Bud and all light beers are abominations. Michelob isn’t bad and I’ll drink that if that’s all there is. Otherwise I’ll stick to water (with maybe a drop of something to kill any wee beasties that might be living in the water).

I’ve never bought any product based upon a record of social consciousness alone. It still has to do it’s job!!!

No, the sale by the Busch family killed it for most of my friends. The Busch family was great. They were immersed in more than one aspect of the horse world. I keep waiting for the new owners to discontinue the horses.

One bad thing already was brewing Becks in the States. Might as well drink PBR as drink Becks now. Btw, don’t tour the Golden CO Coors plant and look at the brown water flowing in to make the beer. Gross out.

I agree Furlong47, there are many great craft beers and a few others, my husband loves the craft beers the best. My thinking on sorry beers besides Bud, is Natural Light, and of course the all time horror PBR! It seems craft beers are where it’s at now!

I wondered when the new owner would start phasing them out. It’s the end of the Budweiser Clydesdales. If they are not useful in their biggest marketing campaign, they are not useful in the rest. Good-bye Clydesdales.

I suspect you’re right. Didn’t they actually try to abolish the Clydes shortly after InBev took over? I seem to remember some talk about at that, at least.

That’s sad. I know many people I meet, when they find out I ride, they always bring up the Budweiser Clydesdales.

I guess they could drag the frogs out again

I’m surprised no one has either bought the rights of the Clydesdale or if there is no trademark (I mean can you trademark a horse breed? I had a Clydesdale from a Canadian breeder for Anheuser Bush and I didn’t have to sign anything). Just stolen the symbol - I mean it would be some heavy re-branding, but Miller/Coors or Heineken?

Isn’t the golden rule, love the horses, hate the beer?

Super Bowel? Qu’est-ce que c’est Super Bowel? Boring sport of thug players. Sad about the Clydes and the Belgian owners of the brand…of course, they probably think of the horses as a meat product vs. something noble.
