Building a Stud Wall in Slant Load Trailer

Please send me suggestions for making a regular slant load divider into a stud wall type divider to use the space for storage. Pictures would be great. I have a 3 horse slant and would love to make the first stall into a storage area but I am not sure how to do safely and at minimal cost.

When I ordered my trailer, I chose to have the divider between the first and second slant stalls be a stud divider. I’m so glad I did because the space is enormously useful for storing tack trunks, hay, etc.

The divider has sheet metal that goes to the floor which is covered on both sides with thick rubber padding. The padding on the side of the divider where there is often a horse gets trashed quite a bit and I’ve had to have it patched and then finally replaced (not cheap). At one point, I looked into having a new divider made but the cost was well over $1000. I am not handy, so all of the the work has been done at the dealer where I purchased the trailer. My overriding concern has always been that it is safe for the horses, especially the edge that goes to the floor.

I’ll try to post pictures…

You could just buy a stud divider from the trailer company. I only like the stud dividers that go right to the ground and go up towards the ceiling as well. That way, you can stack lots of hay, etc. in there without worrying that it will fall into the horse’s space.

You could ask a welder to make you something.

Look at a site called Horse Trailer Conversion II on Facebook. Lots of people have built stud dividers and have shown what they do. The most common method seems to be to hang a stall mat cut to size from the partition.
