OkLurchers, good point. I used a builder based in the state adjoining mine who specialized in barns. He was terrific. I’ve acted as the general contractor on major home renovation and construction projects as well as our 11 stall barn. I’e learned that just about the most important thing for a successful project is a good working relationship with the contractor. A lot of the guys don’t work well with women or anyone they consider amateurs. My barn contractor listened to my needs and suggestions, pushed back when he thought his way was better (he was often right) and we were able to have productive discussions. The result was better than I had hoped.
Boy isn’t that the truth. Drainage really trumps just about everything. And a good barn pad built up so you never have water in your barn.
And yes, too to perimeter fence. I got that done last year and ouch - that was $18k but I’ve got a deadly road out front. And can count 10 stories at least of dead horses on the road. Not gonna be mine if I can help it.
Thank you! Done. Just before the next inch of rain. Just dry enough to move 30 bales 4 at a time with my lawn tractor and turf tires. Too wet for anything else. Took a little while but I can skip the elliptical today. Doubling down on my rec for all weather access to your barn OP. The struggles are real.
Oh good! Always a relief to get the hay in the barn!
