Hi, have you Seen a bump like in this picture?
It s in front of thé fetlock, not hard but not squeashy either. No pain when i touch it. Vet Comes on wendsday but maybe someone has Seen something like that. Thanks.
The whole fetlock looks swollen to me. Almost looks like the horse has wind puffs too. Any heat or lameness?
Is he lame or off at all?
No, not lame
From the place i thought maybe an osselet but it IS not really hard
If it came on suddenly, it may be a torn/strained fetlock joint capsule
Would thé horse bé lame in that cse?
Was it a matter of weeks or months of stall rest?
Is the other puffiness around the lower legs normal for your horse?
Could be a minor whack from a fence or something, or you could have any number of joint capsule or other damage. Because of course .
This is what an osselet can look like, but I’ve only seen old set ones. This is a young reining prospect, yes? Any chance of having whacked the crap out of the leg in training?
The heat would have me icing that and calling the vet out next week, IIWM.
She banged her leg Badly against a fence 3 months ago. Thought she broke her splint bone but xray showed nothing damaged. Since that Time she has thé windgalls AT the back. She banged the outside and back of the leg but now it s more in the front.
Not necessarily. If something happened to hyperflex the fetlock, it could have stretched the capsule, which is now has inflammation, but doesn’t necessarily hurt.
Maybe running in the paddock, she runs a lot. For thèse cases thé best is box rest?
How did you treat your gelding? And how long did it take to heal?
I think most of your questions will be best answered by a vet. You really could be dealing with anything from superficial swelling to catastrophic joint damage - you won’t know without diagnostics, and the prescribed treatment will vary.
Or, you can ice it and rest the horse (no riding, just turnout if she’s quiet) and see what happens.
Ok thanks thé vet IS coming, i know it could bé anything thank you for your answer
Mine was part of a bigger injury, severing his extensor tendon which allowed his fetlock to hyperflex and tear the joint capsule. It all healed well with lots of wrapping and time
Vet came, nothing on x Ray so ultraound and found that thé bony Ridge where thé collatéral ligament of the fetlock attaches was uneven. Said that collatéral ligament was slightly thickened so horse will need rest. Also AT ultraound the skin was thickened.
Hi, so giving an update, After 45 days the vet has Come and ultraound again the collatéral ligament, Said everything healing fine but now thé problem IS that the bump is still There, the vet told me it is subcutaneous filling, it IS not swollen because of ligament or joint. She told me more rest and put a liniment. The problem IS that now After 3 days capsaicin cream thé leg IS even bigger. Why would a horse still have oedema in the skin?
I post a picture as this does not look good
Capsaicin can be irritating to skin. It’s the active ingredient in chilli peppers. Have you used this cream on this horse before?
