Burghley Horse Trials

We’re going to go to Burghley this year. We’ve got a couple of days in London on either side. Has anyone done the train from londonto burghley and back? There is no information on their web site. It does look like we could go from London t Petersborogh without much problem but I am not sure of petersborogh to burghley and if their are shuttles from the Burghley station to the event.

Any help would be appreciated.

Not sure if there are shuttles but I just walked. The traffic is so thick that it’s about as fast! IIRC it’s about a mile.

You are going to have SO MUCH FUN!!! We went last year. We took train from London to Grantham and rented a car. We chose Grantham as it was close to our B&B - The Barn in Folkingham. Train is super easy to navigate. Highly recommend " The Barn" by the way - Jane Wright is a fabulous hostess. The drive from B&B to Burghley took about 35 mins. A shuttle would have been lovely as driving can be a bit stressful especially when tired.

Burghley is about a 10-15 minute train ride from Peterborough. I’ve never seen any shuttles from the train station to the grounds. It’s about a 15 minute walk, but there are generally cabs at the train station (in all honesty, with traffic, it’s probably just as quick to walk).

The trains from Peterborough to Burghley go pretty regularly, but not on Sunday. I have taken the train from directly from London to Burghley, so they do go directly, but I don’t know if it’s as frequent as Pborough to Burghley.

There are lots of trains from London to Peterborough. Fewer from Peterborough to Stamford (Burghley). It is easy walking distance fro the Stamford station to Burghley Park

I took the train to Peterborough, picked up a rental car there, and stayed at a B&B in Peterborough. I drove to Burghley each day

The average journey time between London Kings Cross and Stamford is 1 hour 34 minutes. On an average weekday, there are 24 trains per day travelling from London Kings Cross to Stamford. The journey time may be longer on weekends and holidays with fewer trains running. It is not possible to travel from London Kings Cross to Stamford without having to change trains at Peterborough.

As said above, the station in Stamford is within an easy walk into Burghley Park. Just seems longer going home.

It might be worth purchasing a ‘membership’ for the day/s as that will give you somewhere to sit and rest your weary limbs and potentially stow all your purchases as the shopping is very good.
