Burghley - what to pack! What to buy

Title says it all. I’m off to Burghley. Am excited to see a good group of US riders to cheer on. So any advice as to what to pack - aside from comfortable, waterproof shows and jackets, what to buy (don’t need tack but it’s always tempting) and any recommendations for places to eat. The George is fully booked for their 7:30 seatings. Thanks

You are going to have A BLAST!!! Think Rolex (or LK3DE) - layers and light weight rain gear and very comfy waterproof shoes. I carried a back pack to tuck unused layers into AND to carry purchases. BUT they do have a booth where you can store your purchases while walking around. The shopping is amazing - I was surprised at all the clothing booths - lot of English country chic clothing. Bring your credit cards with a decent limit:) OH ! And the food booths put LK3DE to shame. There are wonderful local farm niche products - cheese makers, honey, smoked salmon, breads. I called the LK3DE to suggest adding local farm to table kinds of offerings at Rolex and while they liked the idea - I saw the same ol’ fare this year in Kentucky. Have a Pimms for me!

ha Gryhrs - I having a difficult time deciding what size bag to pack - large one that’s 1/2 so it can be full for the return home, or medium bag so I’m forced to control my wallet LOL.

Burghley is very similar to Badminton in its vast scale. The terrain is more undulating and, generally, the weather is slightly more reliable and drier. A lot of people do all their Christmas shopping and don’t bother with the horses. Same mix of clothing, fine art, food, jewellery, vacation companies, tack etc etc etc. Always gone for the day or stayed on site so can’t help with evening meal.

ah nice to know weather outlook and drier - tho am packing waterproof boots and jacket. any idea as to temperature - looks like 60’s-70’s and cooler at night.

If you go to the Burghley website, there is a fairly detailed alphabetical list of shopping opportunities at the event.

Yeah. Heading over on the 3rd. 🤗🤗🐎
