Burghley

Dan Jocelyn’s interview was very telling.

those dogs barking at one of the fences at cross country- i can’t believe no one has made them leave?! If you cannot keep your dogs quiet they should not be there!! They bark at EVERY horse and rider!

Very knowledgeable interview with Dan Jocelyn. He called the course “relentless” and said that it had no place where the horses weren’t continuously challenged. Also said thank god for the breakaway pins. He looked pretty serious over it. And for a kiwi, that’s interesting. He also said that he had to nurse his horse home from the halfway point to keep the horse’s confidence.

I think another COTHer commented on this as well, but Ian made some very interesting comments on how frangible devices may have influenced the design. It kind of reminds me of the Jurassic Park quote: “You were so preoccupied with whether you could, you didn’t stop to think if you should.”

Savannah Fulton and Captain Jack had a fall which they didn’t show. Hold on course.

Riders are not saying the course was challenging but fair… they are using words like “relentless”. I just don’t have this feeling of dread when watching Badminton or Kentucky.

Another fall with Captain Jack apparently. It wasn’t on the video.

(Annnnd they replayed it. That was awful. She’s up and walking though. I don’t think I would be after that.)

Omg, terrible fall for them. Horse fell right on her. Both are up and walking off, thank goodness.

I don’t even want to keep watching, and I have a pretty open mind due to FEI grooming for 10 years… I would be a mess in the vet box if one of my horses was out there.

My god the safety vest may have saved Savannah Fulton’s life. Thank god she is leading her horse off herself.

Don’t quite know why the horse fell, though. They are not showing it again, which is best I think.

That was horrific, so glad they are okay.

Many of the early problems were just bad riding from people who probably shouldn’t have been there. I will grant that.

But this course is trapping people and horses of all levels. It is inside their heads. No surprise that the weaker pairs have no hope.

Emma Hyslop is being very bold, but perhaps a bit too bold. A bit scary really.

I think they put in an extra stride and no chance to get his knees up

Jack got his front legs twisted sideways going over the fence and came over the fence sideways. Landed right on her and was basically cast lying on her and couldn’t get up right away. Looked as though he was too close to the fence but he tried so hard to get over.

Can you describe what happened?

The commentators said it looked like a striding disagreement. They got very lucky. I’m glad they showed them walking away.

Andrea Davidson just posted on social media that Buck and Jak are both ok, so that’s good to hear. Doug has also posted, and said they’d be back soon, so hopefully that means Quinn is ok too.

What @arnikalm said. The horse twisted and slid over the fence, landed on her, and could not get up right away.

And Lauren is home safely but a minute over time.
