Burghley

I can’t find it either…

The perpetual Trophy is a big round plate/salver, so the miniature would be round too. They gave Sebastian a rectangular silver frame thing.(@48 mins) As Pippa/Ludwig won the International Pairs Challenge it is probably for the Best Shod Horse. But I could be wrong!

That Twitter account is pure gold! And so accurate. I’m a huge Anglophile and have lived in the UK, I should really buy some of his merch to ride in.

Thank you! I‘m watching on my phone so I had to dig a bit but I found it!

From the Burghley website; https://burghley-horse.co.uk/news/ho…t-timers-fared

"Here’s how out how the remaining 12 Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials first timers fared as they completed the competition.

12[SUP]th [/SUP]after cross-country, Ariel Grald and Leamore Master Plan, ended up highest-placed first timers in a very credible 10[SUP]th [/SUP]place. Thirty year old Ariel is from Southern Pines in North Carolina and was competing in the UK for the first time, courtesy of a US Equestrian Team training grant. Leamore Master Plan, however, is no stranger to this side of the Atlantic, having been bred in Ireland by Michael Byrne."

Apparently Ivor Gooden got the Best Shoed Horse award. No wonder Sebastian looked confused when the doddering old steward pulled him out of the lineup.

Well done Pippa and Piggy. How great for Pippa to come back with such a great win.

I thought the U.S. contingent looked well for the most part. Not an easy course and it was good to see them give it a go. Ariel Grald certainly proved herself worthy of that training grant. She must be tickled pink.

I do hope Buck came out of his fall without further damage to his clavicle. I’m still impressed with his quick method of removing his hung up foot from the stirrup.

Vermiculus is a corker! Reminds me a little of Teddy, with his pricked ears and cross country enthusiasm. Big personality in a small package.

Does anyone know what the issue was with HSB and Harbor Pilot? I’ve seen him go before, not often though, and I don’t remember him being such a difficult ride. He seemed pretty rank, with no steering or decent brakes yesterday. Does he behave that way at times or was this a one off?

The difference between the angry public reaction to Oli’s verbal warning last year (or was it the year before ?) for over use of the whip, and the lack of, to Piggy’s yellow card at the European’s this year is notable. The circumstances were the difference I suppose. Piggy was correcting and Oli was hitting a tired horse.

You’re getting Piggy and Pippa mixed up (seems to be a running theme if you’ve watched either press conference this weekend ). Piggy got the yellow card last weekend.

Well, I hope Ariel gets a big apology from the Burghley organizers for robbing her of that moment. She’ll never get that back. Thrilled for her though, just really sad that she didn’t get to enjoy a moment she very richly deserved.

Thanks. I stand corrected. Apparently one of the few people who never confuse their names is Oli.

I’ll edit. The observation remains the same however.

She’s gutsy and cool-headed, and well-mounted. Seems to be clear on her goals and how to get there. And of high character. I’d love to see her on the team, even given her early experience at the level. She seems like one who would keep us in the running with a high-enough finish and few mistakes. Especially without a drop score this Olympics.

I read that while CMP was married to Princess Anne, he was offered a title, but turned it down. And that not having a title meant that his children would not have a title, either. No clue what the inside story is, but that’s written in some biographical material somewhere on the internet.

I believe it was up to Princess Anne, not her husband.

The Princess Royal didn’t want her kids to have titles. She’s a good mum and a solid person.

She used to stop round my friend’s house for tea. My friend’s mum (non-horsey) was good friends with the PR and another well-known eventer from that era and my friend would often come home from school to find them having coffee.

Princess Anne is a lot like her old man. Doesn’t suffer fools gladly and can eff and blind with the best of 'em. Regularly told the press to f–k off when she was competing. She’s a good egg and the hardest working member of the Royal Family.

I remember Mark Todd saying Charisma would get like this after some time off from big competitions. My guess is HP was very excited to be there, unfortunately for HSB.

He definitely looked it. Did you notice how he was bitted? I didn’t, but I was wishing that she had an option for more control. It is frightening to watch what looks like a potential runaway on a 5* course with a huge crowd attending.

It seems like she’s used a full cheek gag w/ one rein in the past, but I couldn’t quite tell what she had on this weekend.

I think I saw a full cheek snaffle, but I saw it at clarence court, and I think it was shady. Couldn’t tell about anything else. I do remember thinking she might be under bitted when I saw how much trouble she was having.

She definitely used a full cheek gag at KY (I went back and checked the video on USEF Network). This weekend I’m 95% she had a full cheek snaffle, like you said, but I couldn’t get a perfect look on the video. When I got a decent-ish still, looked to me like the rein was attaching to the bit at the ring of the full cheek, rather than coming from below the ring as it would be with a gag.

Of course there’s no indication what the mouthpiece was in either circumstance.
