Business As Usual
I just heard this past week that Ms.Beattie is VP of the National HBPA. I was rather surprised to hear that as there is the matter of the federal investigation into her actions at Penn. I guess there was an investigation that found nothing amiss. Hmm. When did she become VP?
As of July 1. Know nothing of that group’s constitution and bylaws so can’t say if there was a nationwide election or if she was installed by higher up officers.

Check this out…Many trainers sweat very hard getting all 30 starts in order to qualify for medical insurance. This often leads to a lot of program training and other such shenanigans for fear of losing medical coverage.

PTHA only requires 20! Additionally they appear to have much better benefits all around including a much nicer website and newsletter:) http://patha.org/site/
This is a no-brainer folks. Dump HBPA and join PTHA:yes:

The “Queen” is falling.

How?

Doesn’t seem to be winning many races or even in the money much anymore.

For those who got them, HBPA voting ballots are out.

Best thing short of replacing this corrupt organization would be to change it’s makeup as much as possible.

For those intending to vote, I’d recommend Tim Shea for President. For Board members, throw out ALL incumbents.

Being as PN allows no campaigning or discussion of this on their property, help spread the word. Maybe if the election is on the up and up this time some effective change could be possible.

jerk store news

A federal judge has ruled against former Thoroughbred owner Michael Gill and trainer Anthony Adamo in their lawsuit against the Pennsylvania Horse Racing Commission and several commission employees in a case involving Gill and Adamo’s ejection from Penn National racetrack in 2010.

But Gill, a controversial owner who sold his bloodstock after the 2010 incident, predicted a slew of federal indictments will prove that he was railroaded by Penn National “insiders” who were engaging in offshore betting and other illegal activities.

fabulous (where is the sarcasm icon when you need it)

Congratulations to newly elected HBPA President Tim Shea. This is a positive development. A man of integrity and fine character.

The newly elected slate of officers are also decent folks as well.
Well done folks:)

Ok folks,
Let’s talk about the parent company Penn National Gaming.

The recent referendum up in Maine was a shocker. All of the new casino’s were voted down. They were all-especially the slots at tracks expected to pass easily. These casinos were to be run by Indian tribes. The only one that did pass was table games for Hollywood casino in Bangor. Thus PNGI was the big victor up in Maine.

Once was a time I didn’t like Frank Stronach very much. Thought he wasn’t good for racing. I was thrilled to hear he got the Maryland tracks. PNGI changed my mind about him. That organization has done nothing but be a detriment to racing wherever they go.

On a recent trip to Pittsburgh I had the pleasure of visiting The Meadows. The place has beautiful surrounding farms looks like a little piece of Lexington. Many new businesses in the area. Fine homes. In short, the place is and looks quite prosperous.

Where is the prosperity that was supposed to come to the capitol region? Grantville itself is still the same hardscrabble little place it’s always been. Most of the farms are for sale and not selling. Look like they haven’t seen a coat of paint in 30 years. About 75% or more of the population in the town live in trailers. You’d have thought they’d have done a little better in the home town of their flagship track.

Stalls are only given to people from out of state. There are people in there that have been living here for 7 and 8 years and still won’t change there truck license plates for fear of being thought of as a local and losing stalls. This while there are empty stalls in every barn? WTF? Yeah, locals getting stalls is like winning the lottery but faraway folks are invited in there. That’s right invited. I’ve had them tell me they got letters inviting them to apply.

You may find reasons or excuses for this policy of theirs but the consequence of it is that much of the money generated by it goes out of town. Central Pennsylvania is getting no benefit and all the negatives from having this obscene casino.
After the politicians were promised everything in return for voting this place in this is what’s happened.

Also, speaking of money, check this out:

Peter Carlino the chairman raked in a whopping $9,469,277 in total compensation last year. The few shareholders that I’ve met and showed this to are appalled. All while fighting tooth and nail any and all efforts of worker organizing or unionization there.

Additionally, while the economy still struggles along this place continues to post record profits every month. Where are all the new jobs that were supposed to come with this? Where is the promised prosperity for central PA?

For this I recommend 2 things

 1. No more racinos. Folks in other states learn from our mistakes. This is not going to save horse racing. Fight against any and all expansion of gambling in your states. Worst part of it is when they get as profitable as this they have more to throw at politicians. Next thing you know your statehouse is working for casino interests.

 2. Politicians of Pennsylvania, for their broken promises and unmatched corporate greed I’d recommend the imposition of a windfall profits tax on the state’s casinos. Clobber them good. Tax them till they cry:yes:
I will personally confirm that they have no interest in racing and even less interest in the welfare of the horses or the people working there. Just a business venture that has worked out quite well for a few people.

Heh Heh Heh:D:D:D:cool:

Nice to see this resurected, thanks for the update! Wonder how Adamo is paying his lawyer?

Couldn’t happen to a nicer guy. What a shame

Maybe Joe “I hate Horse Racing” Drape will just for fun toss in a few bucks in the collection plate for Gill to resume his legal fund.

I imagine that the fact that the most outspoken jockey is now dead factored in a bit as well. I hope someone else has picked up the torch Tommy left behind.

We’re on a real roll here

This is the second right decision these people have made in the same year! Good call Commission!
(Now if they can keep program trainers from running this guy’s horses they’ll really be doing something)

Well it’s about time…that guy is the scum of the Earth, always has been.

True enough,
For some reason Pennsylvania seems to be a real lightning rod for people like this.

Before we go overboard with praise for the commission perhaps we might ask why was this guy running horses every day last season up at Presque Isle? In all likelihood he probably had stalls up there. It’s this inconsistency that gets them in trouble and ensures that people continue suing them.

If they can’t even effectively police their own state we can forget about them respecting any other state’s rulings. If they’re nothing else they are certainly the nations best poster children for Federal oversight.

Ok folks, this is where it starts to be fun.
Question…Is the city of Erie still part of the State of Pennsylvania? Yes? Good that’s what I thought.
On the 13th of May at Presque Isle Downs we had the following horses run:
Ghost is Fine finished 4th in the 1st
Wenaha finished 7th in the 4th
Sweetie Try finished 7th in the 6th
Leandros (FR) finished 10th in the 8th
On the 15th we had
ET Go finished 8th in the 5th
and on the 19th we have entered
Seize the Fire in the 1st.

All of these horses are trained by a one Burton K Sipp.

Come on Commission just WTF?!!!
You won’t let him in Penn or Philly because he’s a known undesirable yet he can do anything he wants at Presque Isle? This is BS of the highest order.
This commission is an embarrassment and the nation’s number one poster children for Federal Intervention.:yes:

Bump
(hoping this website might be working by now)

Wow.
