How the heck did PA horsemen elect Ms. Beattie? When is her term up? Who ran against her and lost?

These links aren’t working for me. Did someone remove the pages at those sites?

I think penn national should revoke its vaunted slaughter policy. They have no intention of ever enforcing it and it just makes management stiffs like Rob Marella, look like blundering morons. And believe me, with all of the corruption and his dazed and confused attitude, he needs no more help in that department

So please, Frank Quigley, take the piece of paper with your slaughter policy on it, and kindly wipe your #@# with it. Then go to the backside and pretend to care about horses and the people who work with them. To them you are nothing more than a bad paid actor, digging for dirt to protect your management team. If you really had any interest in your racing program you would spend some time in the racing office, so you could see how races are selected, stalls assigned, and how forged Coggins disappear

Please feel free to post this elsewhere on the board: the organization that rescued Major Mecke is about to lose the farm it leases. The owner has health issues and has decided to sell. Kelly and her group are trying to raise the money to purchase the farm ($350K). More here:

http://www.thoroughbredtimes.com/national-news/2010/June/09/Pennsylvania-horse-rescue-hopes-to-purchase-farm.aspx

The story was posted, just in case the link (or the story) disappeared. And yes, the storys main function was to express the need to assist this young lady and her rescue efforts to keep the farm.

But, this is also where it came to light in plain black and white statements of horses she's recued(2008), factual dates and events surrounding the rescues. Major Mecke raced Sat(2/16) and was bought from the kill pen Monday(2-18) at New Holland by Kelly Young.

The 2nd link only verifies the trainer/owner at that time through verifiable equibase, com.

Rather than get insulting or sarcastic about policies of PN, asking for accountability would be more in line. Murray Rojas had to be accountable, Brain George had to be accountable -- both produced their paperwork, their contracts.

I dont knowthe answer to this but ...who's job of asking for accoutability would that be? He who wrote the anti-slaughter policy for PN?

It would be nice if Dick Hertz would post the rebuttal story from the Pa Equestrian. Its time for facts.

STEPHANIE BEATTIE, WILLIAM OTERO HONORED AS TOP TRAINER AND JOCKEY AT PENN NATIONAL RACE COURSE

GRANTVILLE, PA, Friday, June 4… Tomorrow’s Belmont Stakes is The Test of Champions, and a pair of local champions will be honored that night at Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course.

Stephanie Beattie and William Otero, 2009's leading trainer and jockey, respectively, will be feted during Penn National's live local program that begins at 7:00PM.

"We wanted to wait until the warm weather and a big event like the Belmont would help draw one of our biggest crowds of the season", said Director of Racing Rob Marella. "Stephanie and Bill both have strong local followings, and deserve the spotlight for their accomplishments."

Beattie saddled 112 winners from 509 local starters to dominate the 2009 trainer rankings. She is currently third in the 2010 standings with 27 winners, four behind leader Murray Rojas.

Otero rode 176 winners from 953 mounts last year to lead runner-up David Cora by 60 victories. Cora and Dana Whitney lead the current list with 50 wins each, while Otero is third with 47 first-place finishes. Both of his rivals however have ridden at least 100 more horses than the defending champion.

I don’t know how people like Stephanie Beattie, Gill, Adamo, Delahoussaye, etc can call themselves horsemen and at the same time, sleep soundly at night or look in a mirror and feel good about themselves.
Personally, if I ever allowed myself to sink to that level of scum, i’d have to kill myself. I wouldn’t be worthy of living.

when there are options

…and many placements available for just a phone call…

I think I will send this thread to Fred Lipkin. I think he should get to know the REAL Stephanie Beattie…

Hey Rob Marella, who the hell is Bill? I think you’re referring too WILLIAM or WILLIE Otero. Buy yourself a clue so you don’t seem so oblivious to everything around you. Everyone knows that the racing game confuses you and makes you feel awkward. But at least try to learn the names of the major players at the track. Until then continue to make sure the office supplies are stocked and please make sure that Paul Jenkins lunch arrives on time. Thanks
these trainers NEVER can provide the name of the 4Her or therapeutic center that took the horse
What I can’t figure out is, how, in the age of computerization, why every trainer/owner wouldn’t want to be protected from having one of their horses rescued from a slaughterhouse, like Valid Trick, and having people wonder about them, their reputation, their ethics?

I would surely want to make sure that the nice 4-H lady I’m dealing with isn’t a kill-buyer or agent of such in disguise.

As a horse bettor, I can go to equibase and pull up detailed stats on every move a horse makes while they are racing.
Why does it become ā€œimpossibleā€ to do so after they are done racing?

If we’re going to have anti slaughter policies, what is the point if we can’t prove compliance?

I don’t have the answers, and I do understand that a perfectly innocent owner/trainer could end up in this situation.

but surely there is a way to cover the bases a little better?

WinterTriangle you ask: If we’re going to have anti slaughter policies, what is the point if we can’t prove compliance?
That is the major platform now at PN.

You know its really pretty simple, every horse sold or given away should have bill of sale with the new owner’s name, address and phone number. Put whatever else you want on that bill of sale, but at least have that in writing somewhere.

So, where is that bill of sale for the horse?

Nancy

Plus, the Belmont Stakes is known as the ā€œTest of the Champion,ā€ not ā€œTest of Champions.ā€ But why would anybody in the front office know that?

How the heck did PA horsemen elect Ms. Beattie? When is her term up? Who ran against her and lost?
She ran against Tim Shea.

Shea ran hard on a ā€œwe need to clean up the sport and get rid of the chemistsā€ agenda. So I guess that may answer your question on why he did not get elected.

What about setting up a fake situation and catching her in the act? I’m guessing she she or her ā€œpeopleā€ probably only work with a couple of KBs but it would be interesting to see if she could be set up.

Alternatively, has anyone every tried to follow any of the trailers that are leaving the track to see where they go?

R.A.C.E. Rebuttal

Its lengthy,…and Ive only presented the main issues…
It is posted in the June 2010 Issue of Pa Equestrian by Pres. Marlene Murray;Treasurer, Diana Meyers; VP Patricia Bewley and the BOD’s of RACE Fund.

(quote) ā€œThe RACE Fund Business Plan was presented to the PA HPBA in 2004 and was unanimously endorsed. However, funding was delayedā€.

ā€œThe truth is, the PA HPBA had a program that did work, the RACE Fund, but the PA HPBA did not financially support it like it needed to be in order to help the number of horses that need to be retired each year.ā€

The problem has not been the RACE Fund program, the problem has been the lack of substantial perpetual funding, communication and full support from the PA HPBA and Penn National management." (quote)

There were statements made on this thread that there are many options available to the horsemen........this shows them to be true.....
SOOOOOOOOOOOO, if there has been a program in place since 2004? why are horses turning up in killer pens in 2008? >just one example as cited (and verified) on this thread.
and why hasnt Dick Hertz's horse been accounted for as of 2010?
This puts things in a better perspective.

I was told that the RACE fund was doing an extremely poor job of rehabbing and retraining horses so that they were adoptable. If I remember correctly the number was something like three adoptions in three years. I have adopted more than 10 times that amount without taking in a single penny of money from anyone on either side of the equation so I know it can be done.

Laurierace,
the article addresses that …specifically, even with all accountable numbers. If you can pick up a copy of the June PE… its all there.

A (any)program cant work well without the funding from their endorsements...... the fact is, that the PA HPBA didnt stand by the program in place, otherwise it was a working program.

She will probably be much more careful now that you have tipped her off. I think she or her cronies read this thread.
