Just be patient “brightskyfarm”, all good things take time. and a quick comment on the tribute to Penn’s “queen” last night following the second race. I have never witnessed anything like that disgusting show that Penn management put together last night. what a total farce and slap in the face to the horsemen at Penn. they honor a hypocrite that has the same moral fiber of darrel delahoussaye and project her to be a ray of sunshine and an asset to racing at Penn National. what a joke!!! all of you stuffed shirts stood there and gushed over this hypocrite, showered her with gifts, and made her out to be a hero. you should all be ashamed and what a coincidence that this all happens right at the time when the “queen” is under fire for her part in the disappearance of several horses. good job Penn National, you are a laughing stock once again. and Frank Quigley, don’t bother coming to the backside anymore with all of your promises of finding out the truth and cleaning things up. you, too, are a complete joke just like the rest of your cronies. I have two questions, (1) why didn’t murray rojas receive the same type of treatment when she was leading trainer. she works just as hard and at least has morals. (2) where were all of the queens owners, john Krulock, Don brown, and Paul Jenkins. Oh,i’m sorry one of those is a jock agent and the other is the racing secretary. that sounds like hidden ownership to me. I guess they all thought the ceremony was a joke too. Oh well, BUSINESS AS USUAL! good day!

Well it appears that the riders at Philly are teaming up in hopes of making much needed change. Read what one rider posted at Paulick just yesterday.
“philly park rider Says:
June 2nd, 2010 at 9:50 pm
the accident happend around 6:20 am. The “ambulance crew had no idea how to preform a tracheotomy. he was basically drowining in his own blood. The police officer that first arrived had to preform it. The “ambulance crew” at philadelphia park is not emt certified and cannot even drive the ambulance off of the grounds. The officer ended up leaving his car on the horspath and drove the bensalem ems ambulance to the hospital so the trained technitions could work on him. It is a completel shame. Me and fellow excercise riders are teaming up with our fellow jockeys to get this fixed. we should not have untrained personnel caring for us when we get injured. We have to wait for bensalem ems to come and care for us. this will not be left alone. We will fight this until we get the protection we need to have a fighting chance to at least survive. I knew mario fairly well. He rode with my father in garden state park and atlantic city in the early 90s. My condolences to his family and he will be greatly missed by all at the philly park backside”

Hi brightsky,
Being as you wish the tune in for another episode of “As the hot walker turns” or “The continuing story of a trashy gyp racetrack”.
Did anybody know that Penn National recently fired their ambulance crew? Supposedly claimed they were too much money to pay. As a result they replaced them with a bunch of know nothing unqualified bums who have no clue how close to follow the horses or even that they ought to be there in the morning for training hours! Maybe Dickie can expound upon it a bit more.
Above quote is an unfortunate example of what happens when unqualified people are given an ambulance to drive, people die. How long will it be before this hair brained decision comes back to bite Penn National management in the butt?
I was just curious to know where HBPA secretary Todd Mostoller got his law degree? With his intense defense tactics of Stephanie Beattie and the many meetings with management and the stewards to clear her name, you would think that he would be a candidate for partner in a major law firm. I, for one know that as a horseman he has never defended my interest or those of my clients. I wonder why the rest of us are just not that important? Especially considering the rumor that he was thinking about jumping off the Steph bandwagon if things got too hot and heavy. That he was privately disturbed by her actions and would split at the first sign of real trouble. Anyway, maybe they should develop some slogans to help with her defense. How about, If the dress does not fit, then you must acquit. Or to offset the slaughter rules, You can’t take her stalls if she does not recall.
Anyway, that award ceremony last night appeared to be a nice way to take some of the heat off of Beattie. Lets just forget that she cant remember where her horses get retired too and give her gifts. Funny, dont ever remember other trainers getting such a warm reception after winning a training title. And just who paid for the gifts? Was it my HBPA with our funds that were being used to flaunt a public relations campaign for Stephanie Beattie? And funny how nobody in the celebration party wanted to talk about her league leading kill rate at Penn National for on track incidents. But oh, the people watching were talking about it as they whispered insults under there breath. Others were laughing commenting that everybody knows David Wells is responsible for the success anyway.
And the ignorant crew of dweebs in the paddock for the presentation was a sorrowful sight. Lipkin was actually allowed to speak about racing for once. Marella stood in the back with his thumb up his behind. And Quigley took one hand off his pocket protector to cradle Stephanie in support. Quigley is the worst offender of them all. He is now seen making rounds debating corruption rumors and telling false stories about action in the face of bad behavior. He is nothing but a sad helpless front planted to show a perception of concerned management. Next time he is in the kitchen I hope he spills a drink all over his 10.00 wardrobe.
This business aint what it used to be. If I have to train without ethics or retire my horses like Stephanie Beattie or have people praising me while they tell everybody else that I’m a butcher, I’ll have to go bag items at the store for pay.
.
What makes you think Todd has a law degree? He does not.
Laurie, i think that the person posting was being sarcastic when mentioning Todd mostoller having a law degree. If i had a law degree i sure wouldn’t be at the biggest dump in the country working for the most useless HPBA around.
Honor Stephy Ceremony
I was at the Penn Chambersburg OTW last night sitting in the same corner as normal with my buddies. If the allegations about Beattie not retiring her horses properly are true to any extent then shame on Penn Gaming and the HBPA for not doing anything about it or investigating further. I think most people really know the type of person Beattie is and the fate she sealed with many of her horses by sending them to Brian Moore among others via Charles DeHart at the Bow Creek Inn every Sunday and Monday.
When you have owners with deep pockets and a trainer willing to dispose of horses like an old dominos pizza box how hard is it to win a training title? The fact that her excuses are bought by Todd Mostetler speaks to his character and his position of politics first and horses a distant 2nd.
It’s time to leave Beattie alone, she is what she is and she is not a horseman or someone with character. Move on thread to more important topics, Beattie is not worth any more ink on this forum.
It seems to work for Mike Ballezi.
I would like to ask Mr. Quigley one question. He stated to an individual that if evidence proving Stephanie sent a horse to slaughter was produced he promised to take action. Well, there was sufficient evidence produced and the provider has heard absolutely nothing from Mr. Quigley. Very typical of Penn National management, just sweep everything away. Please stay off the backside Mr. Quigley, you are a fraud also and if you decide to wander back into the kitchen again just sit and look around. Everybody will be laughing inside at you. you no longer have the respect of the horsemen, you’re in the same class as Mr. Marella and the stewards. so keep covering up all the dirt and continue to sweep it all under the carpet. I can tell you, the PSP isn’t sweeping anything away, so beware!!
Is this a nice business? I would like to know more about this. I am from Australia, dealing with horse racing. I have the site at http://www.championpicks.com.au but I am open to do some business in other places. Hope you have time to discuss it with me. Thanks.

How would reform to the shipping/slaughter of ALL animals be addressed?
monitored and enforced?[/QUOTE]
I seconded, how can this be addressed and monitored?
What we’ve learned about everything in the last six months at Penn is if you are in the inner circle you are protected by Penn Gaming and the HBPA. If you are not then you are a scumbag lowlife who gets ridiculed by everyone who is in the inner circle. Stephanie Beattie does not even have the fortitude to apologize for missing horses, instead it’s all about protecting her precious character. At least other horseman at Penn own who they are and do not walk around telling people they give their horses to a 4H lady that does not even have a first or last name. Then when she provides two different stories about where a missing horse went and neither checks out nobody at Penn Gaming or the HBPA could care less about the horse and Steph’s story which still has not checked out is accepted by the Executive Director as gospel merely to ensure he keeps his gig for many years. Her owners obviously do not care about their prior horse’s welfare or they would have found that a lot of other horses had met a very uncertain future. I dare Tom McClay, Donald Brown and Robert Cole to ask Beattie for a name, address and phone number of where their last dozen runners were retired then drive to these places and request to pet their old horse. Not much else to say other than it will always be Business as Usual as long as Penn Gaming owns the land and the horseman continue to elect the clique to run the board.
By the way, there is a rebuttal to the heartwarming retirement plan that Beattie is supposedly working on in the current issue of Pennsylvania Equestrian if anyone wants to read it.
Is it online anywhere, Dick? I don’t subscribe to the print edition. Maybe you could either post a link and/or cut and paste it, as I’m sure lots of people want to read it.
Stephanie, where is the horse? The sad I don’t remember and the pathetic excuse of stress have not been bought by anyone. You have been exposed for a true fraud. The people on the backside are disgusted by your very presence.
Unfortunately for you, this is the least of your concerns. When the first wave of discipline happens, you will have a lump in your throat. You will know that you are not above justice, and that the laws of our land rise above that of Penn National management. Judgement day is almost here. It has been a long time coming for you and your kind. Many thanks to those who have turned against you and made it all possible. Best of luck in the next few weeks.
Reform on Equine Welfare
Education solves.
Im sure BeverlyAStrauss can add.
Where is the horse? One has been found!
Here it all is in black and white print… read the rest of the story!

"At the moment, Kelly has 26 horses, one part-time helper and 10 volunteers at the farm. She can tell you the detailed history of performance, mistreatment and rescue of each animal.
She has rescued thoroughbreds whose lip tattoos have been deliberately blurred to avoid identification. She can tell you about the rescued horse she finally traced to its last owner, whom she called.
“Things happen,” the lady, who was no lady, said. “Don’t bother me. It’s not my problem.” Then she found the breeder, who was appalled, sent a carrier to pick up the horse, reimbursed Kelly and gave the horse a home.
Young has rescued thoroughbreds at the top and the bottom of the pecking order. She speaks about Major Mecke— 85 starts, eight victories, seven shows — $289,622 in purses and then, after finishing five of his last six starts out of the money in cheap claimers, dumped in 2008.
The horse was taken from Saturdays race (2-16) to the kill pen at New Holland for the Monday sale!(2-18)/rescued by Lost and Found Rescue.

steph beattie/trainer – DASL stable/owner
this was the horses last race.
ALSO, In that same race was a gelding Comes A Tide (Pa)
trained by Steph Beattie/owned by Robt Cole. This horse has never raced again — next step would be to check records to see if this horse also in that same trip to New Holland.
81 starts for 132K –
You know, this is starting to get really disturbing. This horse was racing on Saturday and at New Holland on Monday. Disgusting. Very disgusting. Excuse me while I puke.
Wow. A horse running on 02/16/08 and ending up at New Holland on 02/18/08 is no coincidence and must have been deliberately sent there. What a crying shame. Thank Goodness a rescue was there to save it.
Dick, I get the Pennsylvania Equestrian and I think you were referring to the rebuttal from the RACE Fund organization. It is a good one. They really let Stephanie Beattie and the Penn HBPA have it and set the record straight.
I feel bad for Stephanie Beatty . She is a sad and desperate liar. The poor thing lies so much that she can’t even cover her own stories. I’ve seen people with split personalities that can keep things together in a more efficient manner. Maybe all of this is just a cry for help. To purse millions and decide that some of your retired racehorses lives are worthless is a sure sign that there may be some major issues there. I hope that Beatty makes peace with herself and finally gets the help that she needs
I have little toleration for this as I have retired safely many of my own horses. People can forgive but this woman has to admit that she has some problems.
Many options to placement are already in place.
