I am not going to beat this point to death by answering every comment.

My logic led me to understand the poster to infer because of my choice of saddle I had a disregard for my horse’s well being. At the time of purchase of my Butet, I did quite a bit of research on several different saddles. I do not believe the designer/maker had a disregard for the horse nor did I. My point was such a general statement was incorrect. Either the saddle, of any make, fits or it does not fit.

I have never had an issue. Both Butet saddles fit my 2 horses well. And these 2 horses are very far a part in body type. With the TB I use a both a shaped pad and gel pad and with the QH just a shaped pad.

Maybe I am just lucky though…

Remember that there is more than one tree used by Butet. I had an older (early 90’s) model that I loved and which worked great for my TB. When I got my WB, who was broader in the back, that saddle didn’t work as well. I got a Butet with the FB2 tree for him, and it fits great. As a bonus, the newer models seem to be quite a bit more durable. I’ve had quite a few of the higher end saddles - Hermes, Devoucoux, Antares, etc - and I prefer the Butet to all of them.

No saddle fits every horse, and saddle preference is a very individual thing. The only way to know if something is going to work is to try it out.

I used to have a bad opinion of Butet until

I worked with one of Beval Fitters on the phone, i already knew from other saddles and fitters what i really needed. The panels that Butet offers is amazing , my question is does anyone know or even research the options.
I have the a butet that i custom paneled , with a regular tree but the difference is in the panels.

So I used to think Butet was only for the rider BUT I know now after having amazing help from the NJ fitter help me design a fit for our modern warmbloods. So if you love the feel but are concerned about the horse there is options. Educate yourself I have had every saddle imaginable and I also work with 2 companys that were custom and had fitters. I would buy my custom Butet wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy beforew any of my past choices.

What about the fact that Butet can make saddles with different panel configurations for the horse? they say they can fit a high withered horse with special panels, but is that really the case?

So it’s 2 years later and my Customed Panel Butet still is awesome

So if you have a challenged horse contact Beval to discuss or meet with their fitter.
I have had no issues and I compete aa and go thru spurts of 6 weeks without stirrups , hmmm no back pain! Well I am talking about the horse !!!

I have had my butet since 1996. Back then (until fairly recently!) I rode in it in jeans and full chaps or half chaps. I have had not had issues with the leather wearing out. There is a faint “seam” line on the seat though.
I use this saddle on everything from medium ponies to big warmbloods, and it seems to fit everything I ride well.
I like a narrow twist, so this was a plus for me when I was looking for a saddle, albeit 18 years ago!

I just purchased a re done Butet - new seat, flaps and covers on the panels and let me tell you - this saddle has saved my horse. After trying many saddles this one is a great fit, and it fits my other two as well which was never even an option I had thought. It has also helped me tremendously with my position. I am so in love with my Butet.

I am looking for a used Butet 16 with a long flap. So a 16 2F.
If anyone can recommend a site to search that would be great! My daughter currently has the CWD and it is throwing her out of her tack. She can’t stay on over the jumps. Just not the right fit.

I have an old Butet (20 + yrs) and also a 2004…I too ride several horses with different builds with no issues with either one. One horse I ride with a gel pad and the other with just a saddle pad. The saddles fits them both well. I also used to ride in jeans and full chaps and got a faint line on the new saddle in the seat. The leather is more fragile on that newer one for sure. I now ride a breeches with full chaps (I love them )

They can.

I have a Dutch WB gelding with a true shark fin. He represents a very challenging fit, and I went through a huge variety of saddles, trying to find one that worked for his wither and body. Enter Butet, very low on the list of saddles I was interested in trying. Long story short, probably the first saddle in this horse’s life that actually fits his wither. The rep was fantastic to work with, I had nine million options for myself and for the horse, and the result is a saddle that FITS the horse (and me!), is beautifully balanced, and that makes me feel rock solid in the tack. Everyone is happy! (Minus my bank account. :lol:)
