Butt High Yearlings...how long before they even out???!!!!

I have 2 yearlings. One has grown steadily and evenly, and has never really had the gawky butt-high stage…yet

My other boy however, is seriously butt-high and has been for the last 6 months…please oh please tell me he will even out!! He was ALL legs when he was born…and wasn’t butt high then. He’s easily 14.2 at the withers and 15.1 at the highest pt of his bum.

Experiences, stories, and hope much appreciated!!

TIA

I’m sure he will even out and also grow a bit higher in the withers - but don’t expect that to happen for a few years!

dont take any pictures…

unless you are making a documentary or a comedy there is no sense embarassing him. One day he will be fine…sooner or later…good luck. PatO

Unfortunately, had a friend take some pics of me with my boys…the first ones ever w me in the pic (I’m always the one behind the camera!)…oh I regretted taking the “conformation” pic of him. I just keep looking at the pics when he was a baby and praying! lol

That was NOT your friend. Tell her to “HAND OVER THE PICURES”! PatO

My boy turned 2 in April and is STILL butt high…measured him tonite and butt still 2 inches higher than withers.

I have a TB colt, 15 months old that is easily 3 inches higher behind. But most likely he will catch up in a year or so! I absolutely won’t consider photos of him!

Infinitely variable. I’ve even got a couple that look like horses. I’m sure that’ll change next week.

I have a butt high baby. I take pictures of him all the time because he is so damm cute. He is gawky and disproportionate at times and that was expected when I decided to breed.
Check out your own junior high pictures…and your mother still took pictures of you and probably even let you go out in public!
Honestly I am totally enjoying watching my little guy grow up, it has been a great experience so far. They go through so many changes mentally and physically and when he is older I will be glad that I got to see how he got there.

As far as butt high, well both my yearlings’ parents have good confirmation and are built uphill so I know it is just him growing. Most fast growing horses go through butt high stages. However, some horses are bred downhill, if that is the case, then no it will not change.
