Buying from Bowie “kill pen”?

I know, right? Really nice floaty trot and with that suspension I’m thinking easy flying changes in his future. He’s going to have a big step. He’ll probably lope down the lines. Plus, he’ll clean up really nice and be a handsome dark bay with white trim. Very Dutchy looking, too, more so than a DHH. Reminds me of my Bolivar colt from ages ago.

(Pssst… Is it working? Has anyone here bought him?) :sunglasses:

Agree, not a riding candidate and I am not in a position to support a second horse regardless of its ability. I hope she finds a soft landing though, she has a sweet face. :frowning:

Uh, if someone could relieve me of one or two of these ponies I’d be hooking up the trailer…

Both boys are still available as of right now.

The 4yo TB this morning, from Bowie’s rainy quarantine. Guy there says “he’s looking and doing great!”

He really does look great! Sound, happy and healthy. I’m sure you can’t wait to meet him!

He is adorable! I wish I remembered to sneak a peak when I was there this weekend! The weather has been horrible, mud aside, all of the horses had a lot of hay available to them. It’s so sad to see the shape these animals are in but for an unfortunate situation at least they have food and water! Can’t wait to see training updates on your boy

Both DH horses made it to the list :grimacing: Who’s gonna pull the trigger and get them??

I’m honestly really surprised they are still there, especially the bay. Usually the younger DHH’s that don’t have any glaring issues get snapped up quick, especially with low prices like that. Maybe they are too young to be attractive to the project horse flippers… it’s not as profitable if you have to let them sit a year before you can start and sell.

Maybe is reflecting the current market, the economy prospects are scaring many and, while sales of top horses are still strong, those buyers have plenty of resources and can weather longer sketchy times, most that buy the lower end horses to turn them around are wondering if they better sit on their hands right now, until the economic future seems more stable than it does right now?

Hope these two pretty ladies land somewhere soft.

We aren’t seeing a big drop off in prices here in Idaho. The prices are slowly coming down though. I have noticed a huge drop in prices for TB currently on the track. A horse that would have been priced at $6,000 last year is going for 3,000-4,000 right now. Some below 3,000.

Similar to quarter horse prices, top breeding, super trained good looking and talented performance horses, especially if showing successfully, priced in the stratosphere.
Run of the mill plainer still very nice horses, way less than they were just a year ago.

I agree. TBs right off the track with a few rides are low-mid fours again in my region and there’s tons of them.

Good news is the appy seems to have found a home. Hopefully the first one is as lucky. I can’t afford to take one another elder. I’ve got three on my feed bill right now, though she’s a nice looking one.

Pretty Pretty Pony Alert!

Someone needs this gorgeous thing, she knows some tricks but would probably happily forget them.

Ohhh ! Cute pony and doesn’t look feral. I bet it would clean up real nice and you don’t need to fatten it up. Got a good tail too - important factor in choosing a horse. I wonder why it has been thrown away.

Anyone that wants to buy from lower end sales needs to be sure they can truly pick a horse apart, find all faults and possibly current or future problems and decide if they can live with what is there.

Any horse for sale anywhere is for sale for a reason, maybe a reason that doesn’t matter to you, but a reason for the seller.
Sale horses can be a diamond or heartbreak.
Get educated yourself and take someone that knows more than you do along also.

Horses are often sold for reasons that have nothing to do with them.

Life changes like death, divorce, college, etc.

Plenty of reasons that are not directly related to the horse. Not unlike the story of Black Beauty.

This 2 year old in particular is lovely and has a nice start to her, she is obviously tolerant of the silly things people ask horses to do.

I think this filly is a great find, and someone is going to be very fortunate to own her.
