I trust that there is a place in hell for people who would allow a horse to get in this condition and then, on top of that, send it to an auction site.
He appears to be out of stock
It says in stock for me. Where was he when I was looking last year?
edit- Oh, sorry I thought you were referring to the DHH. I see now you meant the poor Arab.
Sale barns in TX are not supposed to accept for sale horses in his condition.
Maybe someone in charge caught that and told them to have owner pick horse up and took him off their web site?
I was hoping that poor creature had found mercy in some form.
I too hope this horse found someone with a good vet to help, quickly.
I got her from Bowie. $1250 to rescue her and her one day old foal that was emaciated. I put a lot of money into her to bring her back to life which is why I’m sitting on my hands with the DHH skinny horses go through all of the time.
Did the foal make it? I can’t look at auctions, I’d be in tears seeing all the horses that need rescuing.
She lived for two days… she arrived with diarrhea and it was insanely hot in Texas. Keeping her hydrated felt impossible. Vet was coming out but she passed. June was producing milk but not much in her condition. Baby just had the odds stacked against her.
Looking at the auctions is what landed me with the horses I did! My OTTB isn’t from auction but my yearling is and she has turned out to be such a love! June however was quite the opposite of anything I would buy she was 14.1-14.2 hands but man did she pull at the heart strings!
Well I’m glad your heart over ruled your head! At least the little filly was given a chance
The woman that does videos of her auction buys has two that she knew would not be her typical re-train and flip horses. One is the cutest little spotted pony stallion you’ve ever seen. He’s a handful. But I think she is making more money from her videos of these horses than if she had flipped them. People tune in just to see how they’re doing and what antics the horses are up to now.
I’ve thought about that often! Picking up a couple and creating an engaging audience to find homes the problem is trusting people to take care of them just as good as yourself! There’s definitely a heart for rehabbing animals out there but it’s finding the right platform
there are many great rescues in Texas that I have seen. Their social is great but there’s a few where I raise an eyebrow and have no clue how people are eating it up
but at least they are off a meat truck?
Unfortunately, when you get social media overly involved in rescue/rehab situations it can end up like the situation with the three-legged foal or KVS and Seven… judgments get cloudier when you’re making money off of the content, and when there are thousands or even millions of people expecting a fairytale story and likely expecting you to keep the horse forever. No matter what you do, someone is going to be voicing their public judgment that you’re doing it wrong. And let’s not even talk about the amount of work that goes into building a following large enough to monetize! Oof. You have to either love and embrace being controversial, or have a very engaging persona. Having a fancy facility and a lot of money helps, too.
Anyway. I would love to quit doing social media marketing and switch back to just trying to monetize off my horse-related content. But I don’t have time for both, and the SMM can be lucrative. I’m lightyears away from having the size of following that someone like KVS does.
Both DHH boys are still available today. Their supposed new “deadline” is tomorrow, the 16th.
There is also a late teens DHH mare, and a 4yo DHH gelding who have a bit more time…
If you had video chronicled when you were rehabbing the mare and the foal loss you might have made money.
The woman in MT had a gelding she took a chance on. She had seen him at several previous auctions so she knew he had an issue(s). She video’d everything from looking at him in the holding pen to purchasing out of the ring, then the quarantine and vet checks, feeding protocol, and finally getting him fit to ride. It was very interesting. So many people were invested in him getting better and becoming a riding partner. He was a gorgeous bay with a quirky sense of play. But once he was healthy and ready for work the physical problem showed itself. Multiple vet visits and different rehab strategies all boiled down to the physical problem in the upper back leg and hip was only going to get worse. Vet recommended to euthanize. It was heartbreaking. But it showed people the full spectrum of horse ownership.
The Clever Cowgirl and the horse was called Skelator, because yes he was a walking skeleton when she picked him up.
Love the Clever Cowgirls content! I did document my girls journey but it was more so to ensure she was actually improving not for the world to see!
@Heinz_57 I saw that with the three legged foal! That’s honestly why my following wouldn’t grow cute sweet baby now but all that weight later
sweetest exit is sometimes the soft landing and you are right that people don’t want to accept that.
Just sayin’—the crowd-source offer to buy them and have them delivered to your gate is still open! That way you have plausible deniability with your hubs!
I’m in!
Sorry @Heinz_57 but I’ve got another one being delivered in the next day or so and I’m full!
If y’all don’t mind the possibility of them being resale projects once rehabbed, I’m in.
DH is amenable to the general idea of me buying and selling project horses like I used to do, I just can’t keep keeping them all forever. I do need to sell the pony I am too (visually) tall for, and also my horse that has been prone to partial anhidrosis may need to be sold to a more northerly climate if it shows up again this year.
I doubt anyone on COTH would have a problem with them being resale projects. I wish I was in a position to take on a rescue, but not now.
So, where are we sending money to?
I am all in for the DHH Heinz transformation.
And also, aren’t there Cothers on here that need the Heinz is too tall pony?
Crackerjack on the hunter/jumper forums is looking for a good all around pony for her and her kids…
