Buying from Bowie “kill pen”?

Welp, just have a little bird tell us all what enabling you need to cross from temptation to achievement.

He is nice isn’t he? Hope he and the bay TB get a soft landing. The TB seems like a peach.

Put some shoes on him, he’ll be fine. That’s cement under that bit of dirt, it’s a wonder that ANY horse looks sound in these videos.

While I’m still incredibly tempted by the Morgan and almost hit the button last night, I think that I shouldn’t. With the purchase price, quarantine, shipping, and whatever else in that time (farrier, wormer, whatever) he’s going to be a $4k+ horse. I could buy a more “known” horse/prospect around here for low four figures if I wanted one. Then he’s $600/month minimum when he gets to me. Even with the money there, it makes no sense.

I could possibly keep him for a little less elsewhere but then I’d have 2 horses 45 minutes apart (plus distance from home). I don’t have the time for that.

Someone will get him, and he may make a decent low-key riding horse. I’d love to have him, but the responsible side of me says no. Granted, I’ve basically set thousands of dollars on fire in the past and I’m about to drop $1k+ on x-rays for my existing horse (just hoof x-rays for a baseline) but still, DH would surely send me packing or to the nearest mental institution

It’d be easy to have a second horse where current horse is and they could share a field if they got along, and it’d give DH a chance to ride with me again if Morgan is rideable for me. If he were just a pasture pet, atleast he’d be a pretty one and I’m also comfortable with “early” euthanasia if it doesn’t pan out, but those thousands of dollars should go elsewhere. Still going to follow others that go through with Bowie purchases and live vicariously.

Dang it! Responsibility rears its ugly head again. Thanks for at least running the numbers, tho. Hopefully someone else out there is doing the same thing and it works out for them.

Yeahhh, I can afford it, but it’s better to keep all of the money in savings for our future property…and then I can collect animals  we also move every 3 to 4 years, so need I that to calm down too.

Who do people use to ship horses directly from Bowie to parts of the Midwest? I know it’s considered a “dirty load” so I’m not sure who would do that? Is the transport that Bowie provides (if they go your way) reasonable?

An acquaintance spotted another horse there, and can quarantine at home, but isn’t keen on driving 8 hours. I sent her the link to the Morgan but she’s eyeing something else

I don’t know anything or anyone when it comes to shipping in the US. I picked up my import from quarantine directly, so couldn’t come up with any insight to offer.

Come to think of it, this will also be good future knowledge for me if I feel impulsive again :joy:

I would reach out to Bowie directly, I am sure they know haulers that go all over.

They are usually very helpful in facilitating an increase to your horse numbers.

It makes Mr. Kooky ever so nervous when I talk about how easy it is to get a horse delivered from there. :joy:

Yeah, I told her their number is right there, on the website. Hint hint, nudge nudge

He has shoes on. Might be foot sore/abcess and need a good trim and new shoes.

The hauler I just used for Bert and Ernie makes trips all around, would be worth checking with to see if she could make a trip up to your area. American Stock Horse Hauling on Facebook.

Good to know, I’ll relay the info.

I was just thinking that I am glad that Bowie doesn’t take offers, because if someone makes me feel like I’m getting a deal or not having to pay full price, then it’s over :joy:

I mean, if you picked one up too it’d probably make the haul cheaper for everyone

Yeah, sort of like carpooling. Or horse ubering!

If you have a pair in quarantine it only adds pole $3/day or something when compared to just a single horse. So that’s enticing.

This is what I need. There are probably networks or websites out there, but I need an app where I can just input from here to there and get the horse a ride :joy: ratings are important too.

Yeah, she caught my eye too. But I do NOT need another horse.

I definitely don’t either! I don’t want to know what we’re paying between the racehorses and the retirees.

There is a nice looking QH mare, but her video won’t load.

Looks like they got a load of Amish horses in.

Another nice Morgan.

This 3YO TB is really cute!

This QH is a nice looking one, but a bit spicier and short for this old girl.

This one really caught my eye, too. He has some class and is that pretty golden honey color with a cute face and good size. Nice long step, too. Supposedly he’s only been ridden a few times, which seems apparent.

He’s so nice he’s another one that makes me wonder, “How and why did this horse end up here?”

His colour is my least favorite thing about him. I prefer the dark reds, but he just seems lovely regardless! I’m not completely colour blind.
