Cabardino :) ?

Anyone know his foals first hand?

What about his pedigree?

Also will he add bone or modernize?

Cabardino himself is actually quite refined and dainty. There was another thread recently discussing that he did have some larger offspring out there, but I was surprised when I saw him in person. Quite lovely, but much smaller than I expected. Other than that, haven’t worked with any foals of his.

I’ve seen the horse and a large number of offspring up this way. As horsechick he is not a big horse himself. I would not think he would add size. If you had to categorize him would be more a modernizing stallion.

Nice foals for sure…pretty, typey, nice quality horses.

Size wise Cabardino seems to throw a wide variety. I know a few up in Ontario that are very small, but then others claim that he has added height to their mares.

I have had three Cabardino foals, and they have all been normal sized (16 - 16.2). They all have wonderful temperaments and we have found them to be very user friendly. He is not the best mover so I think that it is important to put him to a good moving mare, but his jump is exceptional and from what I have seen from his offspring he appears to pass that on. The only concern is that Cabardino has a bit of a white eye, and I have seen him pass that on to more than a few of his offspring.

Here are my three Cab babies:
Katavi
Ireland
Henley

W Charlot Farms is also amazing to work with! We love our Cab babies and are using him again this year for a 2013 foal

The white eye comes from Caretino passed through Carpaccio. This unfortunate trait can come with his other good ones. I don’t have much to say about Carbadino, but I noticed your statement, and I thought I could offer some insight.

Cabardino himself is a very modern refined stallion, not a a big guy at all. In person he is not as impressive as you would think.

Having worked around several of his offspring they are very well suited for the hunter ring, and are amateur friendly horses that are good looking and easy to work with.

Its nice that he has a show record, and has a very nice consistent jump, just average movement.

Size wise seems to through a mixed bag, depends on the mare line you cross him with.

Yes, thanks Tim! I had one with a bit of a white eye and didn’t mind it – neither did the woman who bought the filly

When they jump as well as Cabardino does I think that you can definitely look past the white eye

I had an exceptionally nice filly by Cabardino out of a tb. mare. As a two year old, she won her class at Devon and was reserve champion Pa.bred, she was 16’3!! Always easy, polite and very sociable, I can’t say she ever put a foot wrong. Beautiful eyes! Temperament is an improvement over the mare. I can’t say where the size came from. The mare’s (Explode II out of a Keelo mare) next foal, a colt by Cunningham is just 15 hands as a two year old??

I am currently working with two Cabardino youngsters.

The first is a product of Charlot Farms breeding program. He’s a chestnut with three white stockings and a white sopt on his one knee without a sock. He does have the white around his eyes, but he’s still handsome anyways! He will likely finish around 16.1 and has substantial bone and looks much bigger. His neck is huge! He is a fantastic mover and a great jumper. He is going to be fabulous in the hunter ring. I love his temperament! He is the easiest three year old I have ever started! So easy and eager to learn…and a leg ride!

The other one I got in the fall and I keep her at my farm (with no arena) so I haven’t been able to sit on her yet. On the ground she is very easy going, so I hope that will translate into the same on her back. She was bred by someone with their own mare who did dressage. The mare is an average mover and has good hunter form in the chute. She is a plain bay with little white and full black eyes. She will finish about 16.1. I should be able to tell you more about her in the spring!

My vet has 3 Cab foals. All 3 are rather tall (16.2hh +) and refined, they are all out of a MMB hanno mare who is about 16hh. They are all stunning and nice personalities.

I have a coming 4 y/o Cabardino gelding and love him to bits. 16.2 and solid. He’s easier than any horse I’ve ever ridden, great mover, amazing jump. He does have one white eye though. What is the concern with the white eye - is it cosmetic or spookiness?

I have seen a very large variety of sizes- not consistent- big mare = small foal, smaller mare= big foal, etc.

Have seen a lot that I love, and some that are not incredibly impressive, although always useful and athletic.

I have heard the mares have better temperaments than the geldings- which is an interesting statement but this individual had multiple. Could just be her experience.

Cabardino

I know two people with Cabardino youngsters. Both have them under saddle, both horses are tall and refined and have great temperaments. He seems to throw hunter types. One of the two is a stallion and they want to keep him intact as he is very easy to handle and has potential.

In North America, people #1- find it not attractive and #2- think it has to do with spookiness, which is silly, because it is a simply a paint job, not the horse showing the whites of his eyes.

There was a Cabardino colt born on the farm where I keep my own mare just last week. Here he is at a week old out in the big field. He’s already very friendly and social… and not bad to look at either

We have 4 Cab’s. 2 yearlings and 2 brand new. And we’re in the process of making another. You could say we like him, I guess.

I have a very lovely yearling in my barn at the moment. She’s going to be big. Out of a Ster Dutch mare. An absolute sweetheart in every way and will be an exceptional athlete. I handled her in a Line class clinic, first time off property, Didn’t bat an eyelash and the clinician who is a Senior sport horse Inspector Loved her and couldn’t find much to fault her on.

A friend bred her retired hunter who is a very refined, light boned 16.2 h TB mare four times (Balta’ Czar, Just The Best, Rio Grande, and Cabardino). It has been interesting to see how different these four are as the mare gave little of herself to any of them. All four are super just very different. The Balta’ Czar is 16.0h, refined and elegant, blooded and a bit hot. She is dressagey but has a cute hunter jump. The Just The Best is 15.2 h, short backed, round bodied, not hot but also not dead quiet, and very huntery. The Rio Grande is 17.2 h, big boned and bodied, dead quite and super easy, and very, very fancy hunter jump with great scope. The Cabardino is 17.0 h, big boned, moderate frame, and also huntery. He, too, has a super jump and is quiet minded. That said, Cabardino did definitely add significant size to this mare as did Rio Grande.

I have a yearling filly by Cabardino and I also live just down the road from Charlot Farms so I have seen many offspring of all ages. There is no doubt about it that Cabardino is a smaller more refined stallion but don’t let this fool you… he does throw size and moderate bone more often than not.

I was blessed with a very correct filly with 4 white socks and a blaze. She has the most amazing temperment and is the best horse to work with in the barn. I have decided to keep her… if I ever decide to sell her I have a line up of people interested… so for the time being she is “hidden” in the barn

She does have the white eyes as noted by others above… doesn’t bother me one bit and she is not the only horse in the barn that has them.
