Cactuskate

I was lucky to have met Kathy at LAEC when I was covering the dressage freestyle championship. We sat together for a while, chatted, and I even told her a few naughty jokes that made her laugh.

We corresponded over the phone, and I interviewed her for a possible upcoming book. Why? Because I want to immortalize people like her whose passion for riding and horses is their life’s blood. She was truly a wonderful lady. I play her voice back on my tape recorder, and it’s like she’s still there, still chatting about how her first word as a toddler was “thorse”: Every creature she saw that had four legs was automatically a “thorse”.

She loved her husband. She called him “a saint” for standing by her and keeping her sense of humor and self-worth in check. She enjoyed the BB and everyone here.

My life was enriched by having crossed paths with her, and I’m quite certain we’ll meet again.

Add my condolences to her family and loved ones.

This is not a happy day.

OH, thank you!! I now have the chills! What a wonderful woman! She just didn’t give up something she truley loved…Now she can ride her old horse all she wants!!!

BARB*

House hunting on Long Island…we’re looking at cardboard boxes…since that’s all we can afford in a nice area…

I echo everyone’s thoughts here. I know her only through this BB, but the pics of her and Bud are indelibly printed on my brain. How wonderful she was to share that with us and leave us the gift of her courage and inspiration! Like everyone here, I’ll forever remember her humor and grace, and above all, her reminder to grab every moment while we’re here on the planet.

Here’s to CactusKate, raising a glass to you in thanks and in admiration.

I was just thinking about her this last weekend.
She really shined on this board. It’s very hard to accept sometimes that we’re all mortal…

God Bless

What a horrible shame. My condolences to her family and friends.

A priest, a nun, an Irishman, a Scotsman, a cowboy, a lawyer, a salesman, and a blonde all walk in to a bar. The bartender says, “Hey, is this some kind of joke?”

is a warrior, She must have been very brave.

All my love goes out to her family and friends.

My heart goes out to everyone who was ever touched by this great woman. I didn’t know her personally but her humor and loving nature touched everyone on this board.

Rest in peace Cactuskate, we will miss you forever

I had the pleasure of meeting Cactuskate last year at the US Grand Prix and it is hard to accept that someone with so much vitality is no longer with us She will definitely not be forgotten on this BB.

I was thinking the same thing about Cactuskate and Robert Urich.

Heidi great idea!!!

I’m in on that just tell us where to post the donation for the COTH ad.

Though I never met her, I am glad to have shared “cyber” space with her. I hope, should the time ever come, I might be as brave as she.

I used to have a handle on life, but it broke.

The good die young.

Touched by her humor and zest for life
Touched by her kindness and courage

Saddened by her death

She will be missed
In this place in cyberspace.

My thoughts and prayers are with Catuskate and her family.

I was reading this thread with tears streaming down my face. So sad.

We’ll miss you.

Why can’t my horse just be normal??

So sorry to hear that - by reading her post, I realized what a truly stong and inspiring person she was.

My well-wishes to all those in mourning over her death. -

Inverness, that was a beautiful poem with a wonderful insight and sentiment. Thanks for sharing.

Let’s all go out and ride today full of joy for the chance to feel alive on the back of our horses. I’m sure Kathy would love to look down and see us all.

Just adding my sincerest condolences and God Speed for Cactuskate to the Rainbow Bridge to rejoin with all her old and loyalist friends.

Behind every good woman lies a trail of men
