Calendar Suggestion for USEA site

I live in a location where I can easily participate in 2 different USEA areas. In the old Omnibus they had a section which had all the horse trials that were occuring on a specific weekend. At a glance you could see what was going on when, without going back and forth between web pages. Is this still buried on the site somewhere, or shall we start an online campaign to make one?

No need to start a campaign, just email USEA and suggest it. See what they say.

If they would just let you query by date… https://useventing.com/events-competitions/calendar?date=2019-09-15 . (Doesn’t work unfortunately! But, if you contact them, there may be something that is possible already, just not exposed to the public.)

Another option is to write (or ask someone to write) a script to do it for you. Could be a browser plugin or whatever… the page starts out listing all the events and is well formatted. It’s just data, and can be read in, re-sorted, and displayed. (The dates are represented as ā€œMar 9 - 10ā€ so that would take some work to parse correctly vs. being given a proper begin and end date.)

If anyone does contact them – ask them if they have an API or a way to expose just the competition data in some computer friendly format like JSON or even CSV. Then report back.

The USEA app lets you sort events by distance, which I have found helpful!

I wish they had a ā€œadd to calendarā€ button for each event that would allow you to add open, close and event dates to your calendar app so you don’t have to do it manually. Would be great if you could do it by whole region for the season as well.

There are alternative calendars to the main USEA one albeit regional. The one I’ve been updating for nigh on ten years covers Areas IV, V and the eastern half of IX. It also covers Dressage, Schooling shows & clinics plus the Central Florida scene in the Winter. It’s on FB and on the web at www.area35.us
It was originally set up after we were having too many clashes across the Area IV/Area V border so Organizers get a full year ahead to help them plan while Riders (and on FB & the web) get the next three months. If anyone would like to be on the circulation, just send me your e-mail & your organization or barn link if you want to be on the Organizers’ list.
