Calgary visit for the Masters - recommendations please!

I am headed to Calgary on Thursday and will be staying with my sister who lives on the south side of the city. I have Friday off from work and my sister is willing to chauffeur me around. Saturday I have tickets for the Masters with a friend. I fly back home early Sunday morning.

I suspect my sister and I will go to Spruce Meadows on Friday for something to do but she is not horsey and I would be shocked if we stayed for longer than 90 minutes.

I am thinking of visiting some tack shops just for funsies. I live in SK so Greenhawk & Cowtown is about the extent of in-person tack shops here.

Theoretically I’d like to buy a lunging surcingle (I have one at the barn that I borrow but if I found a really nice one I’d buy it) but honestly I don’t NEED anything. I’m interested in seeing some Kentucky Horsewear products in person but again, not a necessity.

I love TKEQ shirts and see they have a store (and I bet my sister would find some things she would wear since it’s basically nice athletic wear anyway) so I have added that to the list.

Equi-products looks promising. I have ordered from Calgary Saddlery before so it might be nice to see their shop in person.

Since AB doesn’t have PST I’d be more motivated to make some decent purchases to save the tax, but since I’m flying I will be limited in what I could take back with me. … although theoretically my friend is driving so I could send stuff home with her.

So … what are your recommendations on things to do/see/shop in Calgary area?

Afternoon tea at the spectacular Fairmount Chateau Lake Louise. Google it, you will recognize that picture. Banff. Easy driving distance. Memorable experience.

I second the Lake Louise trip. So beautiful and elegant.
