Anyone know who the agent will be for it???

I love this stallion.

Father vrs Son?

I love him too!!

BUT here’s a question, why would you breed to him and not to his sire Belissimo? Please tell me the pros/cons of father vrs son.

I’ve been looking at Belissimo as well.

Thanks!

We may be bringing some doses of Benicio for a friend this later this month, It is $1500 per dose including the vet certificate, transportation and shipping. Price goes down if we buy 10 or more doses, but I don’t know by how much. It’s a bit high, but he is a very nice horse. The semen is in quarantine until the middle of March, we are planning on shipping it here at the end of March. Please email me privately if you would like for us to bring some for you.

As always? Hoping for improvement of the breed? And while Belissimo is an outstanding and exceptional stallion there might be mares that are better matches bloodline-wise or don’t fit Belissimo for some reason (e.g. one thing I’d be concerned with using Belissimo is size)
With Benicio there aren’t any foals on the ground in Europe yet asfaik and not many foals altogether.
Then of course there is the aspect of his loud coloring that some may find appealing and others may find unattractive. And then his sire’s studfee is higher as a result of his lifetime performance and proven heritance (which is fair enough but I always try to use stallions before they become superexpensive).

I find $1500 per dose very high for a stallion that doesn’t have enough foals on the ground to see what genes are expressed. The foals that I have seen look nice, there’s a filly on Callaho’s Facebook page that is lovely. His fee for cooled semen in Germany is 1000 Euros, fair enough, but the per dose of frozen is a bit high IMO unless it is rocket fuel when thawed:)

Where can one see what his foals look like to date?

Their website is down at the moment. Scroll down on the Facebook page to a chestnut filly.

I just found her Top Kat. Is that literally the only one so far or the only one we can find a picture of?

I saw at least two foals on their website, I think it’s Callaho.com, but it’s down right now. They were OK, not great photos so it’s hard to tell.

Love this horse also but how correct is he upfront? Or is that just how he moves?

This comment was posted about him on another board:

Another stupidly overexaggerated front end movement with a total lack of movement in the hind, disengaged front to back, behind the vertical, not in true self carriage etc etc, this picture shows everything that is WRONG with modern dressage.

Is that how a true dressage breeder / competitor would view his movement? Or is this just one person’s opinion and thats it?

I love how he moves ad his overall presence but I also know diddley squat about what make a great dressage horse

Really mulling over whether it makes logical sense to put him to one of my homebred TB mares who is very much a hunter type and a hunter mover through and through, to get more suspension to her trot and overall movement and then hoping the jumping part comes through from her side

We personally like his extravagance but wonder if he paddles a bit in addition? Love him though and certainly wouldn’t let that stop us from breeding to him.

Agree on the paddling - more on the right than the left …

Is that detrimental at all though (in the grand scheme of things) if he is scoring “10” with the judges???

No, these kind of asinine comments come from armchair ammys that spend wayyyyy more time typing than they do riding or breeding or anything at all related to either. It’s always the same issue and they always go on and on and on about the “good ole days” and “klassikal” this and that. I am SO sick of people like this. It’s one picture of a horse in one moment in time, the world is not going to end because the front leg is at some different angle from the hind or GOD FORBID the horse is behind the vertical. Argggggg I am sorry but I just seriously needed that rant!

Anyways, I saw the horse live on CMH and he looked fantastic, super mover.

LOL Donella - you took the words out of my mouth! I hate comments like that with such a passion… All I can think is go ride your freakin horse and shut up!

I really love Benicio. He was definitely one of the offspring that influenced my choice to breed to Belissimo. I went with the father because this baby will be a custom foal and my only shot for the time being. Since it’s a significant investment for me I decided to go with the one who is proven rather than take a chance on a younger stallion. If ever ever own a suitable mare I would breed to Benicio in a heartbeat though. He’s stunning.

Ditto Donella and Redmond.

Top Kat, will you see him on your next trip? I must say, he is a very appealing stallion.

Agreed as well:), and very well said. Esp with this particular person that posted this comment on hgs…

I’ve been trying to track down Benicio frozen…were did someone see it posted for $1500 a dose? I think he is a lovely stallion and since he scored 10/10/10 on w/t/c at his performance test, I don’t think I am alone. I want to try him with SPS Destiny/Desert Moon. Absolutely lovely stallion!:yes::yes:
