Callaho's Benicio stallion

I’m really glad we’re not having to cough up this kind of money over here. We’ve just bred Fire and Ice to him (Florencio-Hohenstein) on behalf of her owners hope it does the trick  Will know more in 14 days from now.

By the way here is a newer video of him. He is lovely and very lucky to have a great rider too…

I have a question here.

Since he won the 6th years old Championship, what is the next step ? Could it be now regular grand prix shows ?

I can’t wait to watch his career and see his first foal crop.

Interesting indeed …

Have they priced themselves out of consideration for a lot of breeders that WOULD have perhaps given him a try and put as lot of foals on the ground so that in future years they would have data to show what he could and is producing?[/QUOTE]

I doubt it, the overseas market isnt exactly influential in the numbers game. They will get the data from Germany et al.

Ingrid is right, all the breeding index numbers that you all use for german stallions are based upon data in Germany alone. As he is not too expansive in Germany they will get their numbers in any case, not matter if 3 or 4 americans more or less breed to him. And even if 4 americans more would use him plus they performance of their offspring would calculate into those indexvalues, this would not have a big influnce later in breeding data compared to what number of offspring goes into calculation of the breeding values from the german offspring…

Germany has the young PSG division (Nurnberger Burgpokal Cup) for 7-9 year old PSG horses. We have an equivalent championships in the USA.

And then there is the Louisdor Prize show series in Germany for young Grand Prix horses 8-10 years old. We have an equivalent championships in the USA for this as well.

Benicio’s oldest offspring are now 3 years old

Thanks ! I’ll try to track the show and looked for info on offsprings.

There are only a handful of 3 yos by him, I doubt that these will show up on a wide range…

One of my favorites to make the transition from young horse success to grand prix dressage success is Wajahama… many others have not made it to the top.

Bumping this up; was anyone brave enough to try Benicio’s frozen this year?

I am going to see him in October

My plan is bred my mare to him next year and then import her over to Canada in foal to him. Obviously this is dependant of what I think of his offspring, and what the mare puts on the ground for her first foal in 2013 in Germany.

Kareen will have quite a few by him on the farm next year. She and some of her overseas clients bred to him.

Houserabbitz, you have an unrelated PM…

I am one of those client and is so excited about this. I fell in love with the stallion and hope the cross will be outstanding.

Well I can tell you the embryos are looking happy and so does mom  There will only be two at our house though as the 3rd mare had to fulfill her MPT first to complete her States Premium requirements and thus she ran out of the 30th May deadline.
I have however been granted the boy will be stationed at Famos next year as well.

Kareen, this is good news !

I’ll be on foal watch as well went it’ll come. Meantime, I’ll be watching Benicio and please let me know where and when he’ll compete.

We will also have offspring by Benicio, hopefully in Palomino color

I’m really PO’d Benicio’s owners and current rider have decided to back out of their breeding agreement with Gestüt Famos for 2013 :frowning: I’ve talked to Gestüt Famos and they confirmed the talk of B. being unavailable to breed go in 2013 is correct.
Blimey. I know of quite a number of po’d breeders now who couldn’t be served or had mares who didn’t conceive in 2012 and now what. Studfees paid for an no semen available.

I understand about wanting to promote your stallion in the sport, I also understand about the breeding business distracting a stallion from training and such but he didn’t even show in 2012 so why couldn’t they at least freeze some semen?

actually that assessment of his front end action and such seem to be borne out by the fact that he could not make it in the show ring. http://www.eurodressage.com/equestrian/2013/09/02/fiebelkorn-and-callahos-benicio-part-ways

He was at a show recently with a Swedish rider and he was moving very well for her!

Some of the more extravagant young horses can seem to have a drop-off in movement with age, and some plain ones become more extravagant with training, but he looked the same at this point, IMHO.
