Condensed back story: BO had hopes that a younger college equine student would be a good fit for a good chunk of daily horse care. As it turns out, this hasn’t been the case and things came to a breaking point this week.
I am working with the BO to come up with a long term boarder solution and that is going well. Outside the student, we have a great core group of 4 boarders including myself and an on site live in woman who is currently leasing one another boarders horse. All are competent in the horse world and real life, and work well together. No one is likely to leave for another barn any time soon, especially with an increased level of care and attention. I trust them all to take good care of my horse in the event I’m not around. 3 of the boarders are already on the payroll for certain days/shifts and I am joining on as well for a few things. We also have one other boarder who is great for stepping in when needed in a pinch.
I led the charge in putting together a Google sheet to track tasks and assign responsibilities that is shared with BO as anything like that was lacking. The transparency alone is a huge help and starting point moving forward.
What are some tips, tricks, lessons learned in this type of management that could be helpful to keep in mind?
