Calm Coat Topical Spray

Does anybody remember this??? Oily spray, but not in a bad way. Smelled like tea tree oil and loosened up skin crud and scabs MARVELLOUSLY

I completely forgot about the stuff and now have a very stubborn case of rain rot, probably the worst I have ever dealt with. Now would be a great time to have some on hand! And it looks like it is no longer made.

So, with that being said, if you do remember this spray, what is your favorite similar product?!

Are you talking about this stuff?

Yes, I haven’t been able to find anywhere that actually sells it

For rain rot I apply straight betadine scrub, let sit for 5-7 minutes, then curry well and rinse. Microtek works well also, using the same method: https://www.chewy.com/eqyss-grooming-products-micro-tek/dp/133859?

You probably know this, but keep them curried and dry as much as possible to keep the rain rot at bay.

This is pretty close. Chlorhexidine and and miconazole. Different anti fungal but should work the same

Or you could just mix up your own chlorhexidine and ketoconazole. Both are easily available otc.

Getting the copper and zinc up is usually the ticket with scratches and rain rot type stuff, though.

Upping the copper and zinc (and E, for my horse, even though she already tested high) is the only thing that cleared up my horses skin issues and scratches. Added bonus - she never got cellulitis again when she was getting it twice a year.

Got the tip from you!

Hooray! It’s like a little bit of magic!

Btw that’s super interesting about vit e, too, esp since she was high but still needed more. Stuff like that always makes me wonder about how much we really know, ykwim?

(Along those same lines, my horses need a ton of copper and zinc, and damned if I know why. They should be okay with less but there’s something weird about here. )
