Camelina Oil for Horses?

Hey everyone,

Have you ever used camelina oil for horses? It is supposed to be a great alternative to flax oil for Omega 3’s. I just wanted to hear people’s success/failure stories and see if it’s worth feeding!

Had my gelding on ExcelEQ for a while (6 months). He loved the taste, but I wasn’t too impressed with the results. Wasn’t “life changing” like many claim.

I looked into it back in the summer on the suggestion of my vet. The equivalent amount of linseed (flax) oil is ~25% cheaper, so I’m buying linseed oil instead.

I feed it and like it. This article explains why it’s a good choice (also read the author’s comments at the end): https://blog.biostarus.com/gold-star…il-for-horses/

I have fed it before (as one of several fat components in a whole food diet). I am not convinced it is that much better…but my mare just hates oil so I was glad to move to another dietary solution. I was also referred to it by the Biostar folks (but I bought it from the Seed Oil Company in Oregon, as it was slightly cheaper and I could sometimes use Prime for shipping).
