Can a foal be born chestnut but turn dark bay or something besides liver?? (now pix)

RAGP - that is a fine sunbleached coat he has on! Gotta love the black foals when they are exposed to lots of bright sunlight!

Posted on top of you, sorry for the double question

I’m looking at the pictures now on my computer, whereas I was on my phone earlier. I may be seeing things, but in the adult pictures his lower legs look to have a red hue to them. Are they that way in real life? I could see this being a ā€œblack chestnutā€.

This is a tested chestnut (leave it to a Morgan )

It’s not unheard of in the Welsh breed either.

He spent 3 months here over the winter, and so was not sunbleached and did not have a red hue at ALL at that point. I’m not sure at what point in the year the web site photo was taken. He appeared to be JET black.

I’ve asked his owner if he has any of the other foal pictures. I had them on a previous computer, but it’s now long dead, so they are long gone from my photo stash!

(And MAN, that is a NICE Morgan – whatever the color!!!)

WTH?!?! That is a CHESTNUT??? Interesting (and beautiful!)

VB I know right??

Sit down for this one too - tested palomino (yes, a Morgan  )

JB - I noted the reddish look to the lower legs too. I suspect he could well be black liver.

That last foal def didn’t look like a chestnut, maybe could say had a dun (ish) look. But looking around the eyes you can see jet black under neath.

The point is, looks can be deceiving

Which ā€œlast foalā€ are you talking about? The last foal on this thread, post 21, isn’t chestnut, he’s black.
