Can a two yr old eat eat triple crown senior also need oppinions on my 2 yr old geldings conformation

Hes a 2 yr old paint gelding about 16h,

I fed my baby horse Triple Crown Senior because he was SUPER growthy (he went from 16.2hh at 2-3 to 17hh and then 17.2hh by 5), and I wanted a high fiber, high fat, low-carb food. My older horse was on the Senior so I tried it for the baby and it worked well for him. The nutritional makeup of the Senior is really close to TC’s Growth formula.

Your horse is cute! He’s well-developed for a two year old.

Yes, no reason you can’t feed TC Senior to a baby. It’s a good feed.

Sure. Many show barns that have more then one base feed offer it as an option. Most horses thrive on it.

Far as conformation, he’s not done growing, visual “string test” indicates he will be taller but overall he seems well balanced. Ask again in 6 months and thus time next year.

TC Sr is an excellent growth feed. The question is - will it be too many calories when feeding 5-6lb. If so, you’re better off with 2-2.5lb of a ration balancer.

Conformation - it’s a little hard given the photographer was standing forward of mid-barrel, looking back (a little in the first, a lot in the 2nd, and the 3rd isn’t useful at all), which skews lots of things.

But given that, his front end is lovely. His shoulder slope and angle suggest a nice reaching stride and the ability to use his front end well over fences

He appears in a butt-high phase which has straightened his hind end (be on the lookout for any catching or even locking stifle). I do think he’ll be a bit straight behind than ideal but not a deal-breaker.

His lumbosacral gap looks to be where it belongs - pretty much vertically on top of his hip bone, which is critical for optimal use of the hind end

In all 3 pics he looks slightly uncomfortable behind, which may be solely due to the butt-high phase. It would make me want to get body work done just in case something is brewing.

He’s really lovely!

I feed TC Senior (Gold) to my whole herd. My 24 year old gets it as his main feed, my 18 year old gets 2lbs with a ration balancer, and my 8 year old gets it during the winter, with her ration balancer, when she’s a bit more difficult to keep.

I would happily feed it to a horse of any age with the knowledge that if you’re not feeding 5lbs of it then you should probably add a ration balancer for maximum nutrition. If you reach out to Triple Crown their reps are extremely nice about helping figure out what the best combination of their feeds are for your specific horse.

I’m terrible at conformation but I just wanted to say that your horse looks lovely. He has a nice eye and beautiful coloring.

He is adorable and looks much more like a mature horse then my 2 year old…who looks like he’s a mishmash of different parts!

If you are looking for the minerals, etc. but not the calories, you could feed the Triple Crown 30. Or, if you are feeding less Senior, supplement with the 30, like half and half. Or, feed the 30 and add in shredded beet pulp.
The company has great nutrition help via phone, so reach out to them.

I feed it to my 2yo and to all my others. I will say that two of mine are such easy keepers I was worried the young ones weren’t getting enough vitamin/minerals based on the small amount they get, so I mix TC senior with the TC ration balancer. That way I know they are covered from a nutritional stand point.

I just spoke to TC about this. I have only 3 horses, a 25 year old, a coming 2 yo and a coming 4 yo in regular work. They said I’m good to feed TC Senior Gold (same deal basically) and just add the proelite topline advantage & omega as needed for the 2&4 yo. It’s nice because then I can order a pallet. So, yes! And darling baby!
