Can anyone explain this weird email formatting?

There is one attorney I have to email who uses the strangest formatting in his emails. Every single time he sends an email, random words are underlined and bolded.

For example he just sent the following (identifying details changed):

Hello Margaret (Purchaser Rep. of 17 Alberta & 7 Royal),

Hope all is well. Seller Atty. Jake also reached out to me about these documents. Jake – where would you like me to send them?

Thank you.

This is literally every single time.
Wtf IS this?!

Is there some ratchet CRM software out there that does this for some inexplicable reason, or is this guy just spending extra time being completely bizarre?

I can’t imagine making my entire body of professional correspondence look like this.

Curious if this is a thing that exists for a reason or if this dude is just marching to his own drummer.

I assume he probably has email templates set up that he just copy and pastes, and then fills in the blanks.

In my work, that is common if multiple people are CCd. Ie in this email a response is requested from Jake even though the primary recipient is Margaret

Is it only the names of people that are bolded and underlined? I imagine it may have some purpose on his end - like the names automatically link to their files or help categorize the emails by person or something. Because you don’t have whatever software is involved, you only see the formatting. Just a guess though.

This is my thought too.

A template is used and the places where things should be filled in are probably bold. The person filling in is expected to add the information, most likely replace something like Recipient Name and this particular person does not think to remove the bolding when they replace the marker words.

Email templates used most likely. Or he is copy/pasting from a doc where the info is bolded and underlined.

Agree, probably a template,
But kinda un-professional to have the Fill-In-The-Blanks bolded & underlined.

OTOH, when I worked for a Big Pharma retailer Corporate decreed all emails be signed with:
“Be Well”
My brother pointed out if everyone Be Well, they’d Be Bankrupt
