Can anyone get a human on the phone at The Chronicle?

I have stopped receiving the magazine but my subscription has not lapsed. I have called. I have emailed. I have left 4 voicemails in the mailbox of someone named Kristen whose mailbox answers when you dial the customer service prompt after the voice recording. Has anyone actually contacted a human recently at The Chronicle office and if so how?

I originally called them 3 times and left a 3 messages. Nobody called me back. I was calling in reference to the fact I had mailed them a check, and they had not cashed it. And they kept sending me renewal notices. I assumed my check must have had gotten lost in the mail. But when they didn’t answer, and (Kristen) didn’t call me back 3 times when I called, I changed my thinking to the fact THEY were just messed up on their end, not the post office. They finally cashed my check after close to 45 days. I recently called them about another matter and left a message. Ignored me again. I am getting magazines, but not nearly as often as I used to. Not sure how many magazines a year they now say that they provide. I have been a subscriber for a very long time. But if I encounter bad behavior again when I try to renew, I am done with them. Incredibly unprofessional behavior, I dare say.

I actually stopped my subscription a few years back because I’d end up getting like 3 at a time. It was weird. And I live maybe 30 minutes from the office, so I doubt post office is to blame.

My subscription also mysteriously stopped last fall. I had paid at least a month before it was due. It turned out that my check somehow got lost in the void between the old and new owners. I can’t remember how I initially contacted them, but I ended up talking to Kristen by phone and she was able to straighten it out. There was also some emailing back and forth. She told me that she is the only person physically present in the office.

Several years ago the magazine stopped coming in mid-subscription. It was a fairly busy time at work and I didn’t notice at first. I finally figured it out and contacted them and it turned out that two issues had been returned to them as undeliverable by USPS. So, instead of contacting me, they just stopped sending them.

There are definitely way fewer issues than there used to be. That became apparent during last fall’s delivery stoppage because we went over which one’s I’d missed over the course of two months and it wasn’t all that many.

I remember when it showed up every single Monday like clockwork, except for I think one double issue around the holidays. That went on for decades and decades and decades.

Now, not so much.

Is it worth tagging the moderation, they might know who to send this problem along to.
(I intentionally did not tag anyone because I was not sure if the OP actually wanted to go that route.)

I ended up up being helped promptly via email with my subscription issue.

If you want the address of the woman who helped me, shoot me a message and I’ll see if I can find it in my email archive.

There is definitely something weird going on with subscriptions because mine just stopped late last year. It turned out that it had expired. BUT, I never received an expiration notice of any kind - nothing, nada, zip. Previously, I’d always receive them in the mail or even email.

I didn’t notice the subscription had expired until well into the new year due to being busy with holidays and life. I think I had to re-subscribe to start getting physical magazines again, which are arriving again. The Chronicle is now mainly a monthly magazine except for a couple of special issues that are bi-monthly.

I actually wanted to get a digital only subscription as that’s the way I usually end up reading it, but I didn’t see that option available any longer. (I could be mistaken about it having been available at one point, but I thought it had been. I know The Blood Horse offers it, so perhaps I’m confusing it with that.)

I’m pretty sure I’ve seen that option offered quite recently. It’s mostly digital and only around $20.
