Can I find an inexpensive scarlet jacket?

I have seen scarlet jackets in the Horse Country catalogue and I know of a local tailor that makes custom jackets. Both are in the $1,200 range. I would like to spend considerably less.

Does anyone know if or where I can find a used men’s scarlet coat?

www.foxhuntingshop.com has new medium weight scarlets for $545

www.oldhabit.com usually has some listed… click consignments and then misc items for a list or call the store.

I would suspect horse country has coats on consigment as well, so you could give them a call.

You could also post your request on FOL

Thanks, I checked out those sites and they certainly seem more reasonable than the prices I have seen thus far.

What size do you wear?

Call the Middleburg Tack Exchange. They had LOTS of scarlet coats in a variety of sizes when I was there this weekend. Their phone # is 540-687-6608.

It is a get what you pay for world

I have found the quality at horse country the best.

The foxhuntingshop.com scarlet is produced in India and is of horrible quality. I ordered one and it lasted about five minutes out of the box before I promptly returned it to them.

A local tailor can probably make you a scarlet for $500. I have seen them as high as $2,500.

Horse Country’s prices are high, no argument there. But at least the quality will last.

Check out Horse Country’s sale shop up the street form the main store;
there may be some scarlets there too.

While HC’s sales are few and far between, some screaming buys can be found. Ex: They always have a good selection of hacking jackets at the hound show at Morven Park for 50% or so off regular retail.

Anything, be it bridle, jacket, saddle, gloves…whatever, ANYTHING made in India, RUN for the nearest exit.

SidesaddleRider I will have to give the Middleburg Tack Exchange a call. Do you know if they would ship a jacket? Is that even a good idea?

It looks like a trip to Virginia might be in order…lol

The scarlet coat foxhuntingshop.com has for $545 is made in America. I bought one for my husband beginning of 2007 and we are very satisfied with the quality. It’s a bit warm for those early New England fall days but by late October it’s perfect!

Yes, just tell them what size you need, and they’ll check to see if it is in stock. Then just give them your CC #, and they will ship it to you for trial. If it works, great, if not, you’ll have X-# of days to ship it back to them.

Ravencrest,
What size do you need? I have my father’s old Hunt Coat.Scarlet…It’s beautiful and in mint condition…it’s probably a 38 or 40 however, so a bit on the small size.If interested PM me

I just saw a very nice used one yesterday, the owner was getting out of horses. If you do not have one yet I can inquire as to size – the price was $150 I believe. : - )

I have two coats that were definitely custom made and came from the estate of blackburn farms recently, they rode with radnor hunt. I know nothing about hunting, but if you are interested I can measure them for you. They need a good cleaning, one has buttons that say mfh on them with a black collar, the other has a grey collar and plain buttons.

Looking for scarlet coat.

Hey all, just noticed this thread and I’ve got a friend who is looking for a scarlet coat to use as decoration in a room of her house. She’d like to find something reasonably priced. Doesn’t have to be in great condition or any particular size.

here’s one: look in store, there are two, a men’s and a womens

aren’t those the ones you mentioned in your other post? so you have them for sale on ebay? tsk tsk

I love this place. It is much less expensive. I don’t know the price on the scarlets but you ought to be able to get one for less than $500. I just ordered a new frock coat from them.

You can email them with what you want and they are very helpful. I’m getting an 18 oz. with tattersall lining.
