Can I just get some uplifting comments? - Staph Infection :(

My 23 year old gelding (who just got our first blue ribbon at 1st level) got a casual puncture wound on his face. After 3 vet visits and 3 rounds of antibiotics he was still swollen and hot.

Turns out he has a staph infection. He has to go into the hospital tomorrow and get all infected tissue removed from his face and will basically be left with a big hole where his cheek was.

I’m freaking out emotionally and financially so I would appreciate some happy staph stories and reminders that it’s worth spending the money as long as he is ok :frowning:

I do not have any experience with staph infections in horses but am familar with the emotional and financial stress that comes from having a horse (or any animal) that is injured or sick. I hope that your horse heals quickly and completely! As for the financial aspect, I’ve found that a payment plan can help ease the burden a bit. Good luck and keep us posted!

Jingles ~ your day was one of a smooth procedure and now recovery ~

Jingles & AO !

Update for Pony!

His surgery went fine and all infected tissue was removed. They were able to suture the wound closed and as long as that holds healing will be much faster. They are, however, predicting a longer hospital stay than originally planned.

Yay for my Handsome Boy!
