Can pergo flooring be sealed?

I didn’t want to hijack the other thread, but is there a way to seal pergo flooring from water?

Our kitchen floor is pergo and I would like to prevent further damage. Between the dogs getting a drink and running through the house, and the occasional spill, it has some damage and I would like to prevent any more.

Has anyone successfully sealed Pergo? It’s old so not under warranty.

@4horses Your question about sealing Pergo in the Menagerie is problem best asked in a different forum perhaps?

@4horses when we installed our Pergo floor (over 20 years ago?) it wasn’t recommended for kitchen or bathroom as it could warp or swell. Is that what happened to yours? We did have a plant that over flowed when watered that did cause a swelling in our floor --but it was almost immediately after installation and was repaired by the company. Sorry I can’t help more.

Not to my knowledge. My ex installed flooring for a period of time- and did a ton of laminate. I have some (not Pergo) in my home. When we installed ours, we used silicone in between the pieces, and wiped it down after we pressed it together. You used straps to hold sections together, and removed them as your floor dried. I haven’t had any of it swell.

I do know that you can cut out sections of it, and replace. A rotodrill works a treat to cut out the pieces.

I’m guessing you’ll replace the damaged parts before you try sealing? So why not use click together Luxury Vinyl Plank instead of laminate in the kitchen, or other wet areas? I have the glued down LVP, and live it, but the click together would be right right height to match your other floors.
