Can/Should Hay Be Stored on Pressure Treated Lumber?

Now that I"m done feeding hay until next winter, I’d like to rethink my hay storage area. In general, I dislike PTL, but it lasts a long time. Can it be used as a base or as part of a platform for hay storage? Thanks!

What is your hay on now? Do you have a cement floor and you’re trying to raise it for air circulation?

I wouldn’t. Even though the previous poison they used to use has been banned, I’m not sure the chemicals they use now won’t leach through to the hay.

I use oak pallets covered by OSB plywood. The oak wood is pretty durable compared to pine and obviously safe.

As long as the wood is dry, and stays dry, transfer is minimal to dry hay.

What is “PTL”, please?
