Hey, me too! I think someone just loves the thumbs a little too much. If it weren’t for the ever growing, never goes away notification list, it wouldn’t annoy me, but I hate the clutter. I wonder if I opt out of receiving PMs, if that will opt out of the Notifications as well? I think I will go try that.
Now I have another theory, it is to keep us too busy yacking about this to get into a fight er discussion about less important things like Glass-Steagall. It is really too bad that an intellectually mature oriented bulletin board like this one thinks there is a need for this. Almost like we are part of some societal behavior study or something. If we are I for one want to be paid for subjecting myself, er participating. Who the heck thought of this anyway? I want to give them the triple digits down, although in sign language that is just the letter ‘m’ anyway. Can we score the moderator who came up with this? Okay Mods fess up.
I’m actually pretty exited…I got my very first two thumbs down for my posts on this thread!

Dude, WE (as a community) asked for this. TONS of people asked for it. Go read through this thread.
I feed for the mods. They give us something that was requested over and over and others are just PISSED.
Don’t you dare put this on them. They just implemented something that was very broadly requested.

I didn’t read EVERY post… but I skimmed. I see people asking for the ability to “like” posts. I see nothing about asking for “dislike” or notifications of likes/dislikes.
Many of us don’t go to the “technical assistance” forum. So if that was meant to cross section the forum’s membership, it likely didn’t.

I concur. On both counts.
I never saw that thread until just now.
Thumb Stalker
Well, boo hoo, turning off PMs didn’t turn off notifications:cry:. More thumbs…I think I have a stalker:winkgrin:. My first online…how exciting (not:rolleyes:).
And as for requests, I don’t really care who wanted the up and down thumbs, they can have them. Just let those of us who want to opt out of the notifications do so. And make people have to own up to it somehow. It is just too easy right now, and I suspect that might be someone’s game, going along hitting bad thumb all down the line on certain threads, like this one. Having fun?

If you thumbed up a post that current has 3 out of 6 members appreciated this post, it would then say 4 out of 7 members appreciated this post. If you thumbed down that post it would say 3 out of 7 members appreciated this post.
Not sure where you get 8 from…darn new math.
Eh, not sure where I got 8 from either… I couldn’t do old math let alone new math

Me too.
The fact that 2 people felt the need to neg something THIS INANE is evidence of the sheer idiocy of the thumbing system!

I usually reserve most of my research time to studies other than societal, and especially not when it comes to something as really silly as this. Whoever came up with this idea, whoever they are, are degrading the discussions to one of point taking and juvenile sniping, of course, anonymously, as most juveniles would like such discussions and disagreeements.
I have received a couple of “thumb’s down” for a rather innocuous post. I’m pretty confused.
I also do not recall people requesting a “thumb’s down” option - we just requested a “like” button, similar to FB.
This new system is rather childish. If posters continue to give “thumb’s down” for neutral posts, I’m going to end up like a villager in the town where the boy cried wolf - I’ll grow numb to its effect.
Mods, please address this issue ASAP.
I have received a few thumbs down for posts that I thought were innocuous.
I laughed.
People are free not to like my opinions. Apparently more like them than not, because I’ve got far more good than bad. But even if I ONLY got bad thumbs, it wouldn’t phase me much. I’d just figure that I have a unique way of looking at the world
Interesting… Everybody posting in this thread is getting thumbs down…
Seems to be very negative thread…
I really vote for associating usernames to the thumbs up or down…
I hate the thumbs down, it’s just petty. I would prefer to just get rid of it, but if it stays, is there a way to limit the #of times a poster can use it each day? That would at least stop the posters who seem to go around giving thumbs down to everything.
The other issue with these dumbthumbs, once you hit one, you can’t undo it. I’ve accidentally hit one while scrolling on my touch screen, giving someone an unintended thumb, with no way to rectify. At least stinky Facebook allows you to “unlike” the unintended “like.”
And I predict my thumbstalker will hit here shortly… I’m racking up quite the list, but just ignore it now. PMs will go unanswered until the email notices start working again.
Hey I got 3 "bad"s from my last post. Thanks! :encouragement:
Everyone who posted they had a “thumbs down” because of the petty crap, well I gave you a “thumbs up”.
Let the notifications begin!
I bet we can make this stupid thumb thing a drinking game…
Personally, I am happy with it, I’d like it to stay. Either way it really won’t bother me much.
