laser, tens therapy, chiropractor, tiger balm/ben gay, heat and ice and heck, I’ll built a sweat lodge and burn sage if I need to.
Anywho, I thought my recent experiences might give my horsey friends over here at COTH some giggles and a much needed PSA:
My poor client picked up the phone to something along the lines of “ARGH! #@!#^%$#@!” Thankfully she knows me well. Sigh.
Thanks for the positive attitude! Right now B’s only turnout has been in a taped in yard, with the fence turned on - have forgotten and given myself a couple of buzzes lately! My twinges have been getting only slightly better, but still so nagging I am calling this afternoon to finally face the music…

I had to ride with the teenager jumper lesson. I was pretty anxious about it, I’m old enough to be their mother and they all ride pretty fancy horses and jump pretty high. My horse was a TOTAL superstar. By the end the jumps were about 3 feet and I kept up with the kids.
Excellent!! Congrats, HazelG!
Ouch! Take care of yourself, Pancakes. But great that you can still ride! Horse people do have great fortitude. Heal quickly.
And you’re so right about when things hurt. I find riding even makes me feel better as I can feel my core strengthen. Perhaps a little nagging, but the worst is after having to sit still for quite a while, or being on my feet.
Thanks - great info to have, Dewey.
Been a mixed past 24 hours. “Annoying” sister came up to visit and go to some doctor appointments that she prefers with her doctors up here, vs those in VA where she now lives. She stayed with our older sister. Well, “annoying” sister had a mammogram, (after waiting for 3 years!) and it was not a good one. Further tests show an issue. Our older sister lost her 40 year old daughter to breast cancer a few years back, leaving behind a young daughter. (Older sister, young daughter, and her mother all with the same horse obsession.) As much as my newly diagnosed sister is annoying (a bit preachy religion and politics wise) you certainly never wish this on anyone. Supposedly things look positive - it is early and we’ll see. My job tomorrow is to be around as she’ll be by herself driving back to VA, and we are going to be available for “talk therapy” -driving that long is lonely normally, let alone after having news like this. She does have a great husband, and lovely grown sons and grandchildren.
Then had a lovely lesson this morning. Of course first off, the weather is perfect. Then trainer ID’d that I use my seat too much when applying leg aids, and when that was isolated, things improved. We had a nice walk throughout, so much so that we then actually trotted the last several minutes and B lengthened, carried his head low, really moved well forwardly (he does have an awesome floating trot when not being a dingdong), and no bucks!! Yea! Could be he is really not a winter horse, or that all the work beginning all over on the longe has helped, as has the attention on the ground. Either way, it’s so nice to see a glimpse of the horse I’ve been hoping he can be.
Have a great weekend everyone.
